I have a 99 Malibu LS and the AC is very bad. The blower motor is going out on speed 1 & 2, engine running sluggish when AC is on. I constantly have to turn the AC off and back on in order for the blower to come back on.
My brake pads and rotors I usually had to replace every 15K miles it seems, I currently have 2 bad power windows. The back left window does not work at all and the driver side window does not work when its extremely hot or cold all other times it works it drives me nuts when I am going to the bank teller on a hot day I always need to open the car door then.
Considering I spend 20000 + $ on this car I cannot recommend it to anybody. I wanted to stay within American products, but no way I will ever buy Chevy again I am going foreign on my next car.
Oh by the way the expensive leather interior (seats) I had purchased after only 4 yrs it is totally tearing and shows a wear and tear of a car that seems to be 10 plus years old. Poor quality on the leather used in the Malibu's!
Would never buy Chevrolet again.
Chevrolet should recall Malibu's made in that time frame.
I have a 99 Chevy Malibu LS and I am also experiencing trouble with my a.c. turning off and on, and my driver power window not going down. What's up with the a.c. What can be the problem. I figure that the motor in the power window is gone. Someone please comment.

Comment?
I have a 99 Malibu too (I bought it new) so I can tell you every thing that has gone wrong.
My AC is very bad. I constantly have to turn the AC off and back on in order for it to blow. Please, please do not try to turn your AC on during the lunch hour---you will never get your car cool. I just read your comment about the blower motor---I have had a few people to look at my AC, some say it is the switch inside the car and a few say it is the compressor. But after reading your complaint, It makes since now why I have to continue turn my AC back on (the blower motor).
The temperature control panel appears to go toward the hot range when I am in traffic with the AC on. Oh, I do not like for anyone else to drive my car because they do not know what to watch for. It is shameful.
My brake pads kept going bad. My brakes got so bad until I had to replace my pads and rotors. Then I had to finally replace the pads, rotors, and calipers.
I just recently had to replace my anti-freeze reservoir. The reservoir cost about $50.
I currently have 1 bad power window - the left driver’s side. This window does not work at all. I hate to go to the drive thru because I cannot let my window down.
I cannot recommend this car to anyone because I know the problems I’ve had and I am still having problems. I don’t think I will buy another Chevy Malibu again.
Oh, when I had to replace the calipers and some work done to my car running hot, I called an 800 number that was given to me by the dealer where I purchased my car - I called to file a complaint. But that was all I did nothing took place it was just noted that a complaint was made.
I own a 1999 Malibu and it is the best car I have ever owned. Its got great acceleration, its sound system doesn't suck, and it is reliable. It has never failed me and the only thing wrong with it is the ABS sensor broke off when offroading with it. So you guys can stop complaining about Chevy cars or you can start driving Fords; if you drive fords, I shall laugh.
