1990 Ford Taurus GL from North America - Comments

"Not a mistake I'd make again"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Alternator died soon after I bought it.

Distributer died 6 months later.

Numerous coolant hoses have cracked/broken while driving.

Old wiring would melt/fuse together, shorting things.

Lost transmission pan gasket seal at 180000.

General comments?

The previous owner had the engine rebuilt at 150000 miles.

Reliability, especially with this much mileage on it was a huge issue, put nearly twice what I'd payed for it into repairs and maintenance, something major would go wrong every 2-3 months.

Handling was horrible, the automatic transmission was sloppy, would skip gear occasionally even after having it tuned up.

It is reasonably comfortable and the interior was in good condition.

I have had my Taurus GL since 1990 and it has broken down maybe three times at most. This car seems to be remarkably reliable, of course I bought mine brand new and not used and tried not to ab

use it.
