The transmission has a major problem that came around suddenly.
We were given the van and are having trouble getting a title.
We spent $900.00 putting new Goodyear tires all around, new struts on front, new shocks on rear, spring helpers on front & rear, and rebuilding the front end - all bearings and bushings are new.
We got watery gas and had to replace the fuel pump - $180 did the work ourselves.
The only problem we are having that wasn't a problem when we received it is that we were doing our Saturday drive and stopped for about 15 minutes at a yard sale. When we got back into the van, we had only high gear and reverse. Best case scenario is that it is a speed sensor - $50. Worse case scenario is that it is going to need a total rebuild - about $1400.00.
And we thought we were getting a good deal.
The van rides so good and I am a large lady. It has so much room. We will fix it!
The engine runs very well and holds excellent oil pressure.
I love my 91 Grand Voyager AWD. Just turned 247,000 miles and I'd jump in it any time and drive anywhere! We found it on a dealer's "back lot" and they were getting ready to wholesale it out, due to the infamous transmission problems, which we knew nothing about at the time. When we first had problems and started doing the very-belated research, we thought "OH NO!" Luckily that time it turned out to be just a $20 wiring fix. We did eventually have to put a transmission in... but we think the key was finding a good mechanic familiar with that vehicle. I get fairly good gas mileage, depending on how I watch the RPMs--but it is comfortable, drives like new and I love the ol' gal! Guess we got a good one.
