The usual things that wear out have worn out. Diff, clutch, carburetta, starter motor, front suspension are giving me trouble at the moment, but the car still drives reliably.
I got it running from basically a rolling chassis spending about $1000 all up to get it registered, I have driven it for over 60,000 ks and have had very little problems with it. I intend to continue driving it steadily into the ground until it stops.
I have a tow-bar fitted and someone smashed into the back of me while I was stopped in traffic and I drove away with a few small dents on the rear bumper, but the other car had to be towed away. Go the Datto!
Go the Datsun! I have a 1979 Datsun 200b GX and the thing flies. I have based the paint job on the ford XY GT shaker complete with gt stripes. I love the beast! solid as I only wish they had car clubs for Datsuns. Good work mate!
There's an old saying '...200B...a 180B with 20 more mistakes.'
Hello All, I have a 1978 Datsun GX, the car is so cool I love the beast, on the highways I have got it up to 180 kph and that is running the standard L20B engine and carburettor. Now I have two the other is for spares because the body is rusted, but the engine is solid. I also have been rammed from behind whilst at a set of lights, I drove off and the other car was towed written off. I love my Datsun and so does the wife. (that’s what counts)
I am the proud owner of a 1977 Datsun 200B GX sedan which is about to clock up 1,000,000 ks. As at todays date February 23rd 2006 is has reached 961,000kms. I have had it since new when purchased in January 1978. The built date of my 200B is Oct 77 and my car has the independent rear suspension which I believe was only produced between 77 and up to March of 78 when they changed to the rigid rear suspension. So as you can appreciate it handles like a dream on dirt roads. I am on my 3rd engine, the last one clocking up over 300,000kms before the rings wore out a bit. Apart from the usual, to date the rear wheel bearings have never been replaced. Have replaced universal joints, front wheel bearings, 2nd diff and now have a 5 speed Skyline gear box in place. Buy a new car my family tells me. I defy any modern car of today to do what my Datsun 200Bdoes for me. In all those years I can count on one hand the number of times it has let me down and on most of those occasions it was a flat battery or starter motor. Buy a new car? A new 200B definitely. Anything else just doesn't even come close.
Hi all, I love this open forum communication. GO THE DATTO.
I have just purchased a 77' 200b with a z18 Turbo motor in it. The gentleman I bought it from spent over $10K building the engine, he built it for his son and his son never wanted it. After trying to sell it for $7K for a while, he lowered the price to $3K. I bought it on Monday, just 3 days ago for $1,500.
I'm really keen to get a limited slip differential LSD for it from wherever, I'm willing to pay good money. Does anyone know if Nissan diffs will fit into a datto? I wonder if I can put my email on here. Anyway here goes -

If anybody knows anything of interest about dattos, please send me info, I would really appreciate all the information I can get. Cheers all.
I built a Datsun 200b and spent about 15000 bucks. I had to sell due to marriage commitments. I have now had the opportunity to buy it back and I am so happy. They are a great car. They are unstoppable and go forever.
