What things have gone wrong with the car?

One owner car, driven mostly in the city and into the country. Garage kept, and always serviced when needed.

In less than 5 years, the car has had the lower ball joints replaced twice, 2002, which was covered by the extended warranty, and again today, 2004, not covered by warranty. It has also had to have the upper ball joint replaced today.

The rotors have been replaced.

The handle on the seat, driver's side broke off and was replaced.

When getting the transmission fluid changed (2003), I was told that there were pieces of metal in the transmission fluid indicating that the transmission may only last another year or so before it will need to be rebuilt.

Today, 8/04, at 70,000 miles, my 4-wheel drive is causing me problems. It appears to be stuck in 4-wheel low, and doesn't want to kick into the 2-wheel drive. It feels as though the the car is being held back, as you touch the gas, it will spurt forward, but when you touch the brakes, it pulsates. The dealership put it on the computer, but it hasn't given a reading for the problem. But yet the message light comes on 'service 4-wheel' and the lights on all 4x4 buttons are lit. It's still at the dealership, so I'm not sure what the cost will be for this.

Today I called the Chevy Main 800 number, complaining about the expense of having to replace the ball joints within two years, the dealership said this was pretty common, but yet the Chevy Customer Service, said they have no record of the ball bearings or ball joints being a problem. They say they have not had any complaints, or they would have considered a recall.

In reading some of the remarks on this website, it appears that this problem is more widespread than Chevy knows, so it's real important that people get in touch with them, if they get enough complaints, they do investigate and possibly do a recall, which means we might be able to get some money back in the repairs that you've paid for.

They did contact the dealer that was working on my car, and agreed to pick up half the costs of the ball joints that needed to be replaced for the 2nd time within 2 years. So, please if you have problems, be sure to contact the Chevy Main hot line. We might be able to recoup some of the money that has been sunk into repairs.

I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer this truck has been a total nightmare. I bought the truck used when it had 40,000k miles on it and it now has 122,000k.

I have replaced the A/C compressor, receiver whatever they call that and Orpheus (sp) tube.

The alternator went up this summer and last winter the fuel pump went up. I have replaced the serpentine belt twice and now it is in the shop for I thought was transmission, but my mechanic said it is the rear axel!

I was shocked when your post said you handle broke off the seat, well both of mine are broke off (lol) Glad to know my truck is not the only one!

To think when I paid this off (yep I still owe on it) I was going to get a Tahoe! I don't know. I just wish it would be one year that I could get though without there being an issue. Oh yeah did I mention the A/C still is not working, there is a clog now. I have a great mechanic!

1999 Chevrolet S10 4x4 Extended Cab Pickup Truck.

I am the proud owner of a 99 S10 that has been generally low maintenence and a pleasure to drive. This truck rides nice (for a truck) and I have not had to spend much on repairs. I bought it with 38,000 miles in November of 2002 and it now has 92,000 miles in December of 2005. I change the oil and filters regularly and the air filter as well. Aside from keeping in clean in and out that's as much as I do for it, besides not driving it hard.

That being said here's my improvement suggestion list! I've had to replace the door handle on the third door three times now. I also replaced the glue/adhesive on the sliding window latch as well. This two seater has had both of the reclining seat handles break off as well. I have replaced all of these items myself and bought all of the parts new at dealerships. The price on all of the items I bought were relatively fair, but the quote I got from each dealership on fixing each problem were ridiculous to say the least. The most trivial problem I had was the oil filter cover box thing, the screw that holds that kick plate shut fell out and it's a bolt Chevy built so I had to buy it again from the dealership. That little bolt was something close to $20 with tax... I thought that was a little unnecessary, but who am i?

Lastly I'm having trouble with the 4 wheel drive. I can't seem to get the front two wheels to engage in 4 wheel. I push the 4HI or 4LO button in the cab and it blinks repeatedly. Someone told me to drive in reverse for 20 feet or so and then it will engage... nay I say. It will in the cab show as if I'm in hi or lo, but I'm stuck with the back 2 wheels working and not the front. I don't know how to fix that, but it would be nice to figure that one out.

Like I said I haven't spent hardly anything under the hood, it's all been in the cab. I like the truck a lot and would like to keep it for awhile, but if this 4wheel thing becomes expensive it may be someone else's problem. To the best of my knowledge in the three years I've had it the 4 wheel drive has never worked! Overall good truck out of a 1-10 rating with 10 being high I give it and 8!
