The previous owner repaired the radiator with J.B. Weld and it started leaking, so I replaced it.
The water pump cracked and I had it replaced.
I replaced the stock battery after it lasted for eleven years.
Replaced Throttle-Air bypass valve and PVC valve.
I also replaced the fuel filter, but did not need to.
I love this car, I have been a Fan of Thunderbirds ever since I was little and I finally own one!!
I would not get rid of this car for the world.
One of my complaints is the headlights, they were yellowed, so I replaced them.
I think that this car should have been treated to some of the luxury that the Mustang had like, manual transmission for the 5.0 and just as much power if not more than the Mustang.
Why people don't recognize it as a sports car is beyond me, I mean what does a Mustang have that a Thunderbird doesn't? A convertible model and that's it.
I'm building a street motor for my Thunderbird so I can smoke all the Camaros and Mustangs that dare challenge me.
Thunderbird, sports car???
It's basically a mid-size coupe. Why would anybody consider it a "sports car".
To traditionalists, the Mustang is really a "sporty car" or a "pony car".
Traditional sports cars were really 2 seaters, or 2+2s.
The original sports cars were 2 seat roadsters such as
MG's & Triumphs.
The definition has evolved over the years to include cars like Mustangs and Camaros, but as I said, tradtionalists wouldn't even consider them "true sports cars even today.
No matter how you look at it the Thunderbird coupes of the 80s & 90s do not fit any definition of "sports car".
Whoever left the comment pasted in mine didn't do their research. The 1992 Thunderbird Sport has a 5.0 HO engine rated at 200 hp. True it's a little heavier, but it will hold its own.
"What the Mustang has and the Thunderbird doesn't is a HO (High Output) engine. The Thunderbird has a a lot less horsepower at around 155 and the Mustang has about 215, so there's a bit of a difference. Not to mention the weight difference and other performance parts the Mustang has. But the Thunderbird could make a good sleeper."
The Thunderbird sport is one of my favorite cars and the special thing about that is that they made only 1% of the Thunderbird "SPORT" I have one and it relly fast if you put a bigger engine it coul beat any car.
I Have a 1993 Ford Thunderbird Sport. It has the 5.0 HO, with a AOD Trans. The car is White with a Blue interior. I bought it about 10 months ago and I never had to fix a thing. I did however modify it slighty with a deeper exhuast, and a K&N cold air. The Car Hawls asss. A true Sleeper. For having over 202,000 miles on it, it would still spank most cars. Mustangs and F body GMs defenitly will get a run for their money. The best part is it looks like a stock 1993 T Bird with Chrome exhaust pipes, but beware of the wolf in sheeps clothing. What I don't know is that of the Sport model. I have never seen any other Thunderbird with "Sport" on the bottom of the trunk lid. I have seen "LX", but never, ever a "Sport". I have read that it was an Option in 1991 and 1992, But mine is a # matching 1993 with a "Sport" on the trunk lid, and it was Dropped as an Option in 1993. Is It Rare? It has bogged my mind since I Purcahesed it Last November (I bought it cause my old T Bird had no heat, hense needed a heater core), and this one was a Gem with a 5.0 HO and fully loaded (aside a Sunroof). So if any body knows about a 1993 Thunderbird Sport with a 5.0 HO, please hit me back... Thanks Very much.
Some of the stuff on this site is written by people who don't have any idea what they are talking about. The Thunderbird 5.0 is an HO (high output) and actually is lighter than a GT Mustang, and they are also very rare.
I have a 92 Sport, and I've done my research; not to mention I have had 9 of them, and I know them from the ground up, so don't listen to these guys who tell you some rubbish. Some people here really know what they are talking about.
I just picked up a 92 T-bird Sport with 67000 original miles. Although not as quick as my 92 5-speed SC, it has tons more potential since it has the 5.0 HO motor. I am slightly disappointed that the car isn't very fast, but know that the 5 litre cars can be modded pretty inexpensively. I'm going to add an SC ground effects kit, Cervini ram air hood and then go to work on the engine. I have already been to the local speed shop and know that I can put down 400 wheel horsepower for about $8000. That seems high until you factor in that this includes all parts labor and tuning, to include a tranny rebuild to hold the additional power. I am overall happy with the car and will love it by the time I'm finished.
