I replaced the rotors at 28,000 miles.

My rear defrost went out at 15,000 and they had to replace a module for it.

My radio antenna is in the rear window and I had to replace the rear window due to static in the radio at just over 20,000.

My tire pressure light will come on for no reason. I will pull over and check my tire pressures and they are all in specs.

My low oil light has come on and I have pulled over and had plenty of oil.

My service engine soon, ABS, and no traction light have been on for six months. I can't afford to go and have it fixed at this time though. I was told it would be costly because it was in the computer.

I know of 5 other people who own an Alero, 99 or newer, and have identical problems.

I had the problem with the ABS and traction off and service engine soon and it was only the fuse.

I have had many similar problems.

I replaced the hazard switch.

I currently have no horn,no rear defog, and my ABS is not working.

I have very little faith in my suspension.

All of my dashboard lights come on and stay on, even if there is no problem.

And yes I checked the fuses, they are fine.

I have a 2000 Olds Alero and have had a few problems here and there, but overall seems to be a very good car. I bought the car brand new and within the first 12,000 miles or so had to have the one front wheel bearing replaced, then the opposite side replaced shortly after. Thank goodness that was covered under the warranty. I did have the problem with the Service Engine Soon light, the ABS light, and the Trac. Off light coming on, when the diagnostic was run it was discovered that it was just a wheel speed sensor which had gone bad. Only cost me about $150 to have replaced after calling around too many garages. This car seems to have fairly good handling, good pickup for the size of engine that it has. I too have the problem with the front driver's side window glass being scratched severely by something inside the door mechanism, as well as the first two settings on the heat/ac blower do not work. I think the rear window defroster has finally stopped working also. I'm not all that upset seeing as how the car has 105,000+ miles on it, so it is understandable that some things may need replacing. I have religiously done all the maintenance on time. (i.e.--change oil, trans. fluid, rotate tires, etc.) It recently has started getting really bad gas mileage too, although maybe it just needs a tune up. Overall, I'd say this is a good car.

I own a 1999 Alero GL3 sedan, and it has been in the shop a lot.

Ever since I bought my car the brakes caused me problems. Every time I would use my brakes the pedals and steering wheel would vibrate. This problem was fixed by new brake pedals and refinishing of my rotors.

At 32000 miles the intake manifold gasket failed and my car started leaking oil.

After having the gasket replaced, my front passenger window would not roll down.

My low coolant light, ABS, no traction, and recently my service engine soon ligth come on for no reason.

Overall, I have spent a lot of time and money on this car.

I purchased a 2000 Olds Alero GLS used with 20000 miles. It ran well for for a year. It started to cut out while driving on the freeway. Usually it would start after a few minutes, but will cut out again and again. I trailered it to the local dealership in Chehalis, Washington. Of course they could find nothing wrong. (I had an extended warranty.) I took it to another mechanic who tried several things, but it still cuts out.

I will never buy a GM product again.

OK, I have my service vehicle soon light, ABS light and trac off light on, and I hooked it up to a scanner, and it said my left front hub bearing wasn't reading, and we replaced it 3 times and the lights are still on... what else could it be??? Especially since I've replaced the hub bearing 3 times!!! Please help, the lights are annoying, and I drive a lot and don't want anything to happen LOL.

I was told that those three lights, the Trac off ABS and service vehicle soon lights all amounted to the ABS sensor going out, which is a rather costly repair. I have the same problem and I am not going to fix it because I can do without ABS & traction control for the cost of the repair.

I just bought a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero GX Coupe September 20 2007, I fell in love with the the style of the car and they way it drove. Then the novelty wore off. First issue, Emission light came on and was consuming gas more than usual. Got the computer scanned found out it was my O2 Sensor. Replaced that and the car worked great. And then my window on the driver side just up and seized 3 weeks ago, and found out my Window Regulator was broken, so I was like "Okay, buy a new one" Can't find a manual window regulator anywheres. The only place I can find one is straight from GM at 330.45 and that's not installed. Then, god love Island Chevrolet. I brought my vehicle in to get looked at because my turn signals/Hazard switch stopped working. They advised me well that is under recall along with your computer and your shift assembly. The recall fixed the Hazard/Turn Signal, screwed my computer and I couldn't shift into reverse once they replaced the shifter. Come to find out the mechanic put the linkages in wrong, so now I have reverse, but now, my Service Vehicle Soon, ABS & Trac Off lights are all on. They don't come on right aways the come on about 15 minutes after your driving. Had my computer scanned for the issue. Turns my computer will not reply to the scanner hence the dealership screwed my computer, so now I have no ABS and no ETS half the time and it is all because of someone thought they were doing me a favour by getting these parts replaced under recall, and now I'm stuck with the headache with a car that looks great, works like garbage, and it's all do to a mechanic that didn't know what he was doing when he was around my vehicle. Oh and my car now starts with out the clutch engaged, almost took out my mechanic due to that, when they were scanning my computer, turned the key too hard and it jumped off the hoist. I am really impressed with the way my vehicle was repaired. Good Job Island Chevrolet!. I would own another GM Vehicle I would just make sure I stay clear of that dealership.

I have an 2000 Alero. It just rolled over 186,000 miles. I've gone through brakes and routers, but I drive over 500 miles a week and have a steep hill to go up and down for work. The drive window doesn't go down anymore. It was an intermittent problem that is now completely broken. The rear window doesn't defrost anymore either. I had the stalling problem once only to find out it was a fuel pump which is expensive to replace, but you can't run a car without fuel so. Other than that it's been an OK car. Runs good, good gas mileage and still looks OK. I was thinking of getting a new car and believe it or not I was thinking about a 2003 Alero, I can't afford anything else and this car as been overall OK.

I have a 2003 Oldmobile Alero 6 cyl. with 23,000 miles. The car now has the service engine light on, trac. off light and the ABS light on. The car is almost new!! The rotors and pads had to be replaced at 15,000.

This is a sad excuse for an American car. When I first bought the car I undercoated the entire underside because I'd like to think it would preserve its integrity. I was amazed over the amount of raw unprotected electrical connections near the fuel tank. The interior of this car I think was an afterthought. GM, you're putting yourself out of business!!!

If you have service engine light on, trac. off light and the ABS light on the same time, you may be able to get it fixed my reprogramming the power control module (with updated software calibration). Mine was fixed for free at a dealer under a recall campaign when GM called me yesterday.

I have a 2000 Alero and my rear defrost hasn't worked for a couple of years now. That's kind of a big problem living in WI... for those who have had this problem and gotten it repaired, what work did you need to have done/what was replaced? The shop wants to charge me tons to diagnose the problem alone so any tips would be appreciated.

I own a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. It has over 280k miles on it. When I bought it, it had 42k miles on it.

I have had no major engine problems, so from that perspective, it's a good car. However, every light on my panel is lit up like a Christmas tree.

My signal lights works only once or twice a month, but NEVER when a cop is behind me, so I can't turn or change lanes. I just simply slow down so the cops will pass me... causing me to miss my turn or exit.

The brakes and rotors have to be changed about twice a year. So people like me who put a lot of miles on their car, because we live 35 miles from work, got screwed with the recall being limited to 10 years or 150k miles.

Whoever posted the last comment, you can get it fixed under a special service recall. Call GM and tell them your alero has a problem with the blinker and the hazard lights. They will get it taken care of, it's the relay in the hazard. I just had it done a month ago.

Yeah, there are a lot of problems, when I first purchased my car at 180 km everything was good until, last month, when a module shorted out in my dashboard, I had that problem fixed which cost me $400.00. Now my next problem happened last month, my ABS, Track off, and oil light came on, and that totally sucks, I tried reseting everything, but it doesn't seem to work.
