Ball joints replaced at 40,000 miles.
Fog lamps have condensation problem.
Tires failed at 25,000 miles.
I bought the truck used from a dealer in NJ. I paid alot and was expecting good performance and a long lasting truck. I was disapointed. Both ball joints failed early on. The dealer would only replace the side that made noise. The suspension is terrible. Truck jerks all over the road when you hit a hole or crack at 60 mph. The fog lamps get water in them. Poor gas milage. Noise when the heat or ac is on. Truck jerks between gears. Brakes failed once and had to be replaced.
I have 01 ranger 4.0 XLT Off Road with 40,000 miles now which I bought with 24,000. I have had no suspension problems, but have had throttle position sensor replaced and about another $800 in engine fuels system work done under warranty. It still compared to the two S10's I have owned a better truck.
I bought my 01 Ranger XLT brand new right off the lot. I had to take it back to replace the fuel pump within 5000 miles because there wasn't enough pressure and I had to turn the ignition 3 or 4 times to get it to turn over. It gets horrible gas mileage, as in maybe 13-14 miles per gallon city and highway although the dealer ran it and said 25-27. I've got a 3.0 V6. And now, shortly after my warranty ran out, at under 30,000 miles, my transmission developed a massive leak and it is currently in the shop and will cost me about 1500$ to fix after buying new gaskets and having the casing repaired. All in all, I hate this truck. I don't recommend anybody to purchase it.
If you take care of a truck they will last. Read the owners manuel and see what they recommend.
