Thanks for "sweating the details" VW, what next?
For anybody thinking about buying a VW Passat.
These repairs are on top of regularly scheduled maintenance costs, which you should look into. Are you willing to pay these kind of money for what you get?
All costs in Canadian currency, but I suspect it would be the same cost in US dollars too.
1 mile = 1.6 Kilometers.
Should a 4 year old $36000, "premium" car have these kinds of problems?
Compare to my first car: 1982 used Honda Civic with 50k KM. drove for 9 yrs with over 250k KM's: replaced alternator $200, one brake light, one headlight. Plus regular maintenance. Yeah the body eventually got rusty, but I could still get from A to B rather than be towed from A to a repair shop!
Buying a Toyota, very soon, before we go broke.
I SUGGEST "before you go broke" look at the French side.
Look @ Peugeot 406/407, you'll be happier than ever before, since you'll drive them.
I don't know how you want the guy to buy a Peugeot, since he talks about his car repairs in Canadian $.
Much as he wants he is not gonna be able to. There is no Peugeot in Canada, not even in Quebec.
Who'd by a peugeot anyway, peugeot and citroen come bottom in the reliability ratings, toyota, honda, nissan all come suspiciously close to the top.
I own a 2000 passat Glx V6 30V... never had any problems at all.. the car is way superior than civics and other "blah" cars this car is fun to drive has a great look and its just a wow.
1999 GLX and too many problems to list, glad I bought the extended warranty. I like the car, not the problems, getting ready to trade it in for a Toyota...
I own a 2000 VW Passat also. Very nice car, but don't get me wrong; everybody I've talked to who has owned a passat or know someone who has owned one have all said nothing, but problems...
Bought the car with roughly 45,000 miles.
@49,000 miles passenger CV boot has leak, $200.
@Current 52,000 check engine light comes on...
I'm gonna get a wrx screw this HITLER for a car!!!
I have owned my 2000 VW Passat V6/30V for 3 years now... and have had NO problems... bought it with 35K miles and it now has 106K miles on it!!! I like it so much, I bought a newer '04 Passat, but it is a 4cyl vs the 6. It runs great too. VW is the best!
2003 Passant GLX V6 w/tiptronic.
45000 Trunk hinge broke, out of warranty, ('had to replace both hinges) $250.
47000 Worn out charcoal canister, out of warranty, $200.
47650 Transmission stuck in 4th gear, all shift indicator lights on, will not shift with tiptronic; shut off wait overnight, seems OK. Drive 0.5 miles and same occurrence except now has check engine light on?!*.
I've owned my 2000 W8 4-motion passat for about 3 years. I bought it with 7500 miles on it and now it has 40000 miles I've never had one problem only replaced a taillight. the V-Dubs are great cars especially mine lots of power and a great look!!!
I just dumped a 2000 V6 Passat GLX Wagon at 93k miles because of a major engine oil leak issue. I had to replace both catalytic converters on the car at 83k and 86k miles. VW wouldn't even share in the cost because the converters were warrantied to 80k miles. I also was on my 3rd set of brakes in the rear. Those here who say that VW's are the best..., get real. Your comments are a joke. You can find horror stories all over the Internet about VW oil issues and other major problems. You can't find anywhere near that quantity of complaints about Japanese cars. I just bought a Honda and I'm expecting a much better experience than with the Passat. Before I owned the Passat I had a Nissan that got 144k mile without any major problems. You are correct if you say the Passat's are fun to drive, but it is a reliability nightmare. It seems some of you are really proud of the reliability record if you are one of the lucky ones to get around or maybe even over 100k miles without major problems. Many more miles than that is the norm for Japanese cars, not the exception like it is with a VW. I'll never buy another VW and I'm telling that to everyone I know who would consider buying one. I wish someone had told me that.
I just purchased a 2000 Passat v6. Loaded with every option. It has over 110,000 miles. It seems to be running great. The one problem is that it's leaking oil. So I need to get it into a shop and have it fixed soon. Any ideas of where I should take it to have it serviced?
I have a 2002 VW Passat Diesel 130BHP. I have an oil leak, which seem to be coming from the turbo, but I cannot be sure. I powerhosed the engine today to get rid of the oil leaks, and am trying to find the leak. My friend has the same car and uses it for a taxi, and solves this problem by wrapping a rag around the turbo!!.. What a joke. I am sorry I bought VW now!
