"A medium performance bargain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The interior is falling apart. The doors seem like they are about to come apart. The rear shocks have rusted so bad that the rod covers are rotted out. They have to be replaced.

General comments?

Great pickup. Nice factory stereo system.

I am a proud Chevrolet Beretta owner, she's a 1989, and has 151,000 miles as of today. These cars are truly remarkable but MUST BE WELL MAINTAINED for extended life and performance.

I just can't get over the fact that Chevy actually had the nerve to cancel the car. I mean let's think about it, it's the baby brother of the Corvette and Camaro. So it's not only the Corvette v/s Mustang or Camaro v/s Mustang, but I've seen the Beretta not only step up and rise to the occasion, but prove its worth to earn that bowtie on it.

The main problems I see are the door panels, they seem to plague almost every Beretta owner alive. That's really it.

They're great on gas.

I have the 2.0 4 cyl. and I'm gonna get the 2.8 V6. My only problem is that she looks good but doesn't have the muscle to go with it.

Honestly, though, I would strongly recommend the Beretta to anyone who is willing to take care of it. If you are looking for a car to neglect; well I can't help you.

I would love to see this car return to Chevy's line up. However, when the Malibu made its long awaited return; many were disappointed; now I'm no Malibu fan, but I agree with them 100%. For those who don't know the Malibu was a muscle car in the 70's and returned as family cars with no connection to the past whatsoever. That's what makes a Beretta's return kinda frightening.

I am a proud owner of a very nice looking Beretta. This car has gone through its share of maintenance, but believe me- it's WELL worth it. I would not sell my car for the world. I would not give up my Beretta for ANY new car on the market. I would love for Chevrolet to bring this line of cars back.

And YES the door panels have struck for me too.

I bought my 89 beretta gt in April, and now it has nearly 280'000 kilometers on it, but it still runs like snot.

There is absoulutely no rust on the car, but the paint is starting to chip here and there. The interior seems to rattle apart after a while, and the dashboard seems to crack from the sun. I love the digital dash, along with all the need options.

Thigs I have had to replace in the 4 month i, ve owned it include: Struts, rear shocks, Front wheelbearings, all new stabilizer bars, the converter solinoid, and some basic things like oilfilters, airfilters, fuelfilters, etc.

Overall I like the sporty appearance, and all the women it seems to attract. Being 19 years old it's all that counts.

I got my 89 Beretta GT 2.8 V6 in Dec. of 1997. I needed to replace my used 89 Cavalier, which didn't last me 3 yrs!. I wanted a Pontiac Grand Prix and when I saw the Beretta, I fell in love. I wanted the car (which reminded me of the Grand Prix) and it was the first one I looked at!! Yes, I have the problem with the door panel.. if you are talking about coming apart (the screw hole dryrotted)...and the dash cracking (of course my EX husband made it worse by punching it... does anyone know where I can find a cover for it??) and there seemed to be problems with the paint in 1989 Chevy's. She looks pitiful b/c I can't afford a paint job.. she is maroon with spots...: (The headliner is falling, but other than that, the main problems I have had was the fuel pump and recently the dash lights (digital dash) went out and needs bulb replacements. Oh and the rear view mirror fell off (that can be fixed in a heart beat). I LOVE THAT CAR!!! My husband and I have a newer mini van that gives us more trouble than the Beretta.. we were talking on getting a new mini van and selling the old and keeping the Beretta. It is my baby, and I want to fix her (and I refer her as a girl... her name is Speedy-don't get me wrong, I am a woman, but somehow, you can tell my Beretta is a girl). I can't wait to... Anyone having any paint problems?? E-mail me! villakat2@yahoo.com.
