Nothing special to be mentioned other than the usual suspects (tires, brake shoes etc.).
It can keep up very well with most of the newer TD (c) i engines. I regularly frustrate Golf TDI and even smaller BMW 3 series owners with my unsuspected accelerations.
In spite of this performance, it's a very economical car to drive. My estimate is it uses just under 6 liters of diesel per 100 km.
I had two collisions, one with a Fiat Stilo - my mistake. I needed a new bumper, the Fiat had to be towed. Later with an Alfa Romeo 155 (his mistake). I think his car had more damage than mine. Anyway - my point: not only could the looks be mistaken for a tank, it's built like one too!
The styling's a bit primitive and there's no electronic comfort devices, but those usually break down the first anyway.
I will keep this car as long as it will run, which could so it seems be next to forever.
I totally agree (I'm also from Belgium), my dad bought a 460 td in 1995, he kept it real nice, no accidents, and very well taken care of... he's about to buy a new Audi A3... so I can have the Volvo, wich is going to be my first car :) I just graduted...
Because of that I just started to look around via Google for a Volvo 460, that's how I got on this page...
The car is very robust and like you said, VERY economic, 6l indeed. The only thing wich I don't like about the fact it makes a lot DIESEL NOISE especially when the engine is cold, I might wanna do something about that, once the car is mine... (i.e. isaolate the insde of the hood)
it's an overall no-nonsense car, and after all, isn't that what it's all about?
(nevermind the looks, I know it's not that hip, but lower the car, put on some rims and you'll be surprised)
Your dad must be trippin... Why would anyone with comment sense change Volvo for an Audi??? I did it backwords... I owned almost new a6, which was a dissaster, and I give it away for a 1991 Volvo 460, which runs great. My Audi only had 20.000 kilometers on the clock, Volvo 190.000 at that time. (now 400.000).
My point:don't buy an Audi, unless of course you want to spend more time in the shop than on the road.
Regards.
