1989 Ford Falcon EA from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Cheap reliable and comfortable car with lot's of grunt"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Injectors blocked up, because I let the fuel run too low. That's all engine wise.

Front left spring was snapped when I got it and the left rear door and guard was dented in.

Dash is cracked, easily hidden with a dash mat.

Drivers side window winders tight. I put soap in the tracks. fixed it.

General comments?

Insane power compared to my previous car, which I still have and is a HQ Kingswood with a 202 and an Aussie 4 speed and Salisbury V8 Diff.

Uses lots of fuel when you hammer it or go above 100km/h. doesn't worry me though because I have gas, very cheap to run.

Heater and air-con is awsome, but aircon makes the temp go up a bit.

Lays sick burnouts when turning. but won't do stand stills for some reason.

I lost control a couple of times from flooring it around 90 degree corners, did a awesome drift once too.

Boots up to 180km/h with ease, will do about 210-220 if pushed.

I've driven a VN and it rides nothing like my EA. I think EA's are the most comfortable in it's time.

Very cheap to buy and very reliable. I recommened an EA for any P-plater.

I consider 210-220 kph a bit of a wild claim for this model of car. Im very dubious.

How so is the EA a better ride than the VN?

Hi,

I recently bought a car to do my P's in and it was between the VN, EA and EB. The EB was the best ride of the lot, but more expensive than the other 2. Of the other 2 the VN had the best ride, it was more powerful and had better position of the seats in relation to the pedals, aside from the over steer you can get in it. But they were both extremely good rides for the prices of $2000 - $3000. I went for the VN for $1999 for a 89 Berlina.

I have an EA that I have owned for the past 18 months and I must say that they are a better ride than the VNs. That said the steering is way to lite, but this is easily fixed with a sports steering wheel and wider tyres on the front. As for 220KMH well I find that hard to believe, but mine is a 3 speed auto, I'm putting in a 5 speed in the next few weeks so maybe that will change a few things. but all in all its one of the best cruisers I've ever driven! one more thing, I drove to adelaide from hobart a few months back and there were no commodores on the highways they were all EA-EDs.

I now own an 89 commodore VN and previously owned a Ford Falcon EA, I prefer my Ford as there were no complications with it and when something mechanical needed repairing it was easy and only cost less than 50 dollars.

After having my ford for a year it was written-off by a holden Barina, mind you, The comparison of damage was amazing, with my Ford, hit on front end suffered only slight damage considering it was hit hard and we were travelling at 60 kph, chassis was bent slightly, that's why it was written-off, Barina was way worse as you can probably imagine. No one in my ford suffered injury other than maybe a bruise or two. My Holden now, after only owning it for 10 months, had cross-member fall down, needed new gearbox, fuel pump, power steering pump, among many other things, costing me more than the car itself! It still rides great though, just keeping it together is the hard part.

That being said, stick to the ford falcons, best reliable cars I've ever had, and in the case of an accident it really is sturdy!!
