The transmission had to be replaced at 12,000 miles, after 4 times in the shop.
Tje washer blades had to be replaced at 8,000 miles.
There is a squealing Noise, which still occurs after 4 times in the shop.
There is a pinging noise, which still occurs after 2 times in the shop.
The car hesitates on cold start and will not accelerate into traffic... major safety concern... still not resolved after 8 times in the shop.
My experience with Hyundai has been the worst experience of my life with any car I've ever owned. I did a lot of research before purchasing the car, and did so because of the warranty and the high ratings from Consumer Reports. Hyundai is giving me the runaround about fixing my current problem, and I'm in the very stressful process of seeking a buyback from Hyundai. Will most likely have to hire an attorney to get any results since Hyundai shows no signs of doing the right thing. PLEASE think very hard and long before you purchase one of these cars, and check out the web for postings of problems with them... they are everywhere!
My sympathies to this consumer because I am experiencing the same thing with my 2000 Hyundai. It is a lemon, lemon, lemon; a nice looking lemon, but a lemon just the same. I thought how nice and sporty it looked just yesterday as the tow truck took it away to the dealership. I have thought of a buy-back, but my lease is almost up. Yes, I was dumb enough to lease this vehicle. I will tough it out, and take it as a valuable lesson learned. All you out there considering a Hyundai, you'd better think again. There are far better, more reliable cars out there than Hyundai. I suggest you disregard their great commercials touting that 10 year warranty! It isn't worth the trouble.
I am having problems with my 2004 Sonata, it vibrates to much. I also spoke to a friend who went to the Attorney General's Office and got his money back. You should try that like I am going to do. I will stick to my Chevy's. I had a Monte Carlo which I kick myself now for trading it in. I do a lot of traveling and figured I need a good warranty.. what a laugh. You need the warranty because there is always something failing.
I have a 1997 sonata Hyundai that has been giving me problems for years. I have replaced transmissions twice gaskets, reworked heads, motor mounts, sensors, etc. There is not enough room on this paper to list all the repairs I had done on this vehicle. The roaring, frying pan noise that is heard while driving this vehicle is very aggrevating and no one seems to know where its coming from so Ihave to deal with that each day. I have spent so much money on repairs hoping that each one would fix the problem. While I'm driving the speed hand goes down to zero, very scary situation. I wish I had never heard of Hyundai. I wish I had enough money to buy me another car. This car is not reliable at all.
I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. The only problem (so far) has been, what I consider, somewhat excessive vibration when idling - in gear. It is most notable when stopped at a light. When I put it in Park or Neutral - the vibration is considerably less - but, nevertheless still there. It has been in the shop four times to look at this. Each time I have been told there is nothing wrong.
I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata LX that I bought used. It has been a great car. No vibration problems at all and the car handles great with 35,000 miles on it.
86,000 miles are on my Sonata. I have had several electrical problems with my car since I bought it and the dealership has had trouble recognizing and fixing. The window motor has gone out as well as the wiper motor and mirror control motor. When I put on my brakes, my dash lights dim. If I accelerate to quickly my dash lights will go out!
I have 2 Hyundai Elantra's, a 2000 and a 2001. The 2000 has
93000 miles and the only problem I ever had was the trans
had a leaky seal and was fixed and the dealer gave me a rental in the meantime. The 2001 only had a one time problem
with the check engine light wich turned out to be an evap
code (bad batch of gas caused it). Dealers try to be evasive
at first because warranty work is not their main bread and
butter. Don't hesitate to call the main headquarters in Califofnia and get a case number. They will send a rep if
you can't get satisfaction with the dealer. I want to always
buy a Hyundai and I'm a former GM assembly line worker. These
cars are the best I owned in 34 years of driving.
Sonata 2.4L (2004)
Stability at more 200kmh.
Ensure alignment, balancing & tires is regularly maintained.
Good handling (grip) at high speed conner (requires manual handling: sports mode @appropriate gear).
Ensure TCS, ABS, EBD & BA is equip + running.
Reliable breaking and BA (properly used).
For center dashboard rattle sound, request the mechanic to: check the wiring inside the center dashboard (make sure they are well clip/tied). However this process require the removal of the center panel temporarily.
Reverse LCD not in proper place.
Main issue is outside noise is loud (even when all doors and windows are closed: static condition/not moving).
This occurred after almost a year in used.
However, Hyundai is yet cannot determine the issue.
I have recently purchased a 2005 Sonata and I wish that I would have researched customer satisfaction instead of company ratings. My Sonata has just 1,000 miles and the vibration felt while idling is terrible. A new car should not shake the steering wheel when running as this model does. As I've researched other customer comments I have found that several others report having this problem. Maybe hyundai usa will receive enough complaining reports and fix this. It really can't be good for the overall value while parts are being continuously shaken loose. Anyone considering a 2005 should be aware as the sales person will not alert you to such a defect.
I own a 2003 Hyundai Sonata and the car is OK for the money. However, I do have one problem that just won't go away. The windshield wipers bounce across the windshield when engaged when raining, streaking the windshield and it makes it very hard to see under these conditions. I have taken my car to the dealer at least 6 times and I have been informed that this problem is a characteristic to all 2003 Hyundai Sonatas! I can't believe this. This is a defect that Hyundai and the Dealer won't take care of. I doubt that I will ever buy another Hyundai. Every time it rains this problem causes me heart burn. A new car should have windshield wipers that work properly.
With approximately 85,000 miles I have paid out a grand total of over $3,800 in parts, and labor with myself doing the majority of labor. Problem areas have been MAJOR brake poblems, major engine work, front-end work and a variety of electrical problems. Hyundai refused to repair a rust problem on the hood giving me no clear reason as to why they felt it was not a defect. The entire hood rusted from the inside out on the nose of the car when it was less than 4 years old. I could have upgraded and bought a Toyota Camry with the money I have spent on repairs with this car. POOR QUALITY.
I have a 2004 Sonata GLS. The tire's had to be replaced at 24000 miles.
I have a 2004 Sonata and just like the rest of you who bought a Hyundai from 02-05 I'm experiencing the same vibration problems, not to mention leaking windshield, which the dealer just sealed with some caulking that has fallen apart. Also my armrests on the door seem to crack and pop when pressure is placed on them... I have brought my car in numerous times and I always get the same story nothing is wrong... I will NEVER buy another HYUNDAI.
I bought a 2003 Sonata base with a 2.4L engine and it has been a good value for the money ($16,000). I received all the "bells and whistles I wanted, including sun roof, ABS brakes. I have 54,000 miles as of 3/1/2006. Now the 2.4L engine (which I understand is no longer offered) will not win me the Indy 500 but I knew that when I bought it. If I hit the gas it gets me where I need to go in traffic and the ride is smooth as long as you do the obvious and keep the front end aligned. The interior size and front legroom is superior to the Volvo 760 I had previously.
Renting a 2005 Honda Accord showed me that the 2003 Sonata is a little behind technologically. The interior size of the Sonata I thought was better, but the ratio of horse power to engine size and gas mileage is superior with the Honda although that comes with a higher sticker price. I have not driven a new 2006 Sonata yet, but I did drive the 2005 350 V6 luxury edition and I would buy that.
I found the service departments very helpful at the various dealers I used in Northern New Jersey.
Like some I experienced a problem with the windshield wipers streaking after 8-9,000 miles which was solved by buying Bosch after market wipers. There was a leak in the rear tail light recently which I will have repaired shortly, it took them some weeks to get the gasket. An 18 wheeler threw a rock which cracked the windshield which of course, doesn't count. These were my only problems.
BOTTOM LINE: Although my snooty lawyer friend will never get in it, you get your bang for your buck.
I have had similar issue's with my 2001 Hyundai Sonata. It started with the paint chipping off the door handles 2 months after it was purchased. We have had the engine coil, transmission, catalytic converter, alternator, and battery replaced all under 50,000 miles. Now at 61,000 miles We are having major problem's with our headlights. Some type of an electrical problem. The headlights and high beams burn out for no reason. Very dangerous when driving at night and with no warning have no lights. We have changed the headlights several times. Have had diagnostics run and no one seems to be able to find what the problem is. Any one have any idea what could be causing this??? Unfortunately after 60,000 miles the warranty will not cover my headlight problem. I would never buy a Hyundai again.
