1991 Ford Fiesta RS Turbo from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Best cheap hot hatch!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had a problem with the inner CV joint falling apart!

General comments?

The best car I've ever owned! When I stiffened up the suspension the thing handled like a dream with totally nautral handling, totally encouraging you to slide the car round any corner, and those Recaro's are priceless.

These cars are in a totally different league to those crappy XR2i's which I've also owned (briefly).

They do tend to cost 3 times the amount of a XR2i though, reasonable XR2i-1000 rs t-2500.

How is it in a different league to the XR2i?

With a Piper or Kent cam, ashley manifold and full system and a chip the XR2i puts out between 125 and 130bhp with more torque then the turbo model and without the reliability issue you always get with turbo engines.

Plus the car itself is identical other than some bonnet vents, rear opening windows, recaro seats which are easy to get hold of for a XR2i and an extra 20bhp. Hardly worth the extra £1500 they cost to buy and the extra to insure them, and then maintain over the n/a CVH.

Yeah, but the thing there is, all you have to do with the fiesta turbo is exhaust, filter and chip and your churning out 165bhp, and when you got plenty of 300BHP+ 1600 CVH turbo's out there, how can the XR2i compete without forced induction, quite simply it can't.
