"A stylish 4 door near luxury sport sedan"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Absolutely nothing the car is pretty much brand new.

General comments?

I absolutely love the look of this car and the unbelievable power the 3.5 has and the way it handles like it is on rails yet takes most bumps like they were nothing. The interior is also top rate in ergonomics and style and most importantly comfort. Each day I get into this car and take her on the highway it just brings a smile to my face. The stock bose stereo is also good too, but I am adding an external amplifier and 2 subwoofers which will be perfect. I hope to have this car for years to come.

Does anyone have any transmission problems? My Altima has 13,000 miles on it and when its cold it shifts really hard. Any time I accelerate to get on the freeway it seems like the transmission slips and jerks really hard. Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems.

Hello I wrote the review I have had similar problems, well not really problems. When I get in the car in real cold weather and start up and drive it shifts a little hard (not too bad though), once it warms up its shifts perfectly. I would just take it to your dealer and have them check it out, otherwise I really love this car, I have put on a little over 5,000 miles with no problems whatsoever.

I purchased a 2005 Altima 2.5 SL with four miles on it. The transmission seems hard whether it is cold or hot. It seems to run as if I was driving in 3rd. The heat/air unit whistles while the fan is blowing anywhere from medium to high. I took it to the dealer and we test drove two other 2005's...same problem. Just because they sound and operate the same does not make it right.

We aren't very happy with our 2005 Altima. The gear shifter makes a terrible noise while shifting between gears. We had to take it in for that and two times for the air bag light which was recalled. And I couldn't get the trunk to open on many occasions, my husband had problems with the doors unlocking, but would not open. And the radio cuts off or the volume goes down when it wants to. Maybe our car is just possessed. But I know I am not happy.

Hello, I am planning on purchasing a 2005 Altima and wanted to let everyone know about nissanhelp.com. They list bulletins and recalls for all Nissans. There is a bulletin/recall for Altima hard shifts. Please check it out to see if it is helpful for you.

I posted about several things going wrong on my 2005 Altima. I forgot to add that the sunroof is broken as well. Is anyone else having problems with their automatic gearshift getting stuck? EVERYDAY mine gets stuck and you have to jerk it to get it to go into reverse. Am I the only one?

I have an '05 3.5SE. We have about 48K on the car already. We have had very very few problems with the car, absolute trooper. Gas mileage depends on the weight of your right toe. Small issue with the bottoms of the door handle cup coming out and being lost, no biggy. Cranks up and goes without complaint. However, recently it started being hard to put into and take out of park. I found that if you rev the engine while holding the brake in park or neutral (which ever direction you are stuck, in or out of park) the shifter will release and procede into or out of park. The dealership cannot recreate (obviously) so we are stuck with our workaround. guess I am going to have to tow it to the d-ship in the state.

I had the same problem with not being able to shift out of park with my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. Under my shifter console (which is on the floor also) there is a relay I replaced and since then everything works again. maybe you could try that?

I have an 05 3.5 SL with around 22k miles. Does anyone have the problem where you get above 75 MPH the thing shakes like a wet dog?

I also had the shaking problem with my 2005 3.5 Altima at higher speeds, although it comes and goes. I think it has something to do with the tire inflation or the tires themselves. I was pretty happy with the vehicle overall, however I now have a rear brake problem. Rear pads and rotors require replacing at 39K miles wearing almost twice as fast as the fronts. Anybody else have this issue?

My wife and I have an 05 Altima 2.5 S and the car has been a very good car so far, 33,000 miles. Recently though, we have noticed that slowing down at highway speeds, 60+ or higher and coasting to a stop, the transmission sounds like a fighter aircraft engine, hard to describe. Kind of like someone with a 5 speed down shifting, but this is an automatic and this sound recently started as I said. Anyone had or having a problem like this?

I don't have an Altima, I'm a Pontiac kind of guy (specifically a Grand AM), but I do like the Altima and keep up with it as a hobby.

I'd say to those lower commentators reporting some shaking at speed to checkout the following... Similar to my Grand Am, I experienced shaking at highway speeds which turned out to be nothing more than the front tires not being balanced after a tire rotation (the back tires were now the front tires you see). I simply returned to the shop and had them balance the tires and that solved that.

If that doesn't solve most of your problem I would postulate this. I've experienced whole body shaking on an older Grand Am I once owned. I believed that it could have stemmed from a number of things including:

1) Tire balance, which is a problem that only magnifies itself the faster that you go. 2) Alignment, which again only magnifies itself. If you're going one direction and your wheels are going another direction by only a slight degree even... 3) Tire roundness. If one of your tires isn't round anymore, then it's like walking or running while hobbled... 4) Engine mounts. Your engine is always vibrating when it's running and will even jerk when you shift. If you have good mounts the rubber at both ends will absorb this. But as you increase speed, especially at very high speeds, your engine has to work harder and faster. And if you have old mounts that the rubber isn't as pliable as new then it will allow more vibration to transfer. 5) Quality of the road surface. What kind of roads are you driving on? I'm in Dallas, and there's a highway here that for a stretch you can see the ridges in the highway surface, and then it becomes as smooth as glass.

That's just my two cents. It's things I've looked at throughout the years I've owned various Grand Ams.
