1995 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer from North America - Comments

Transfer case blew at 180,000 miles. Replaced with minimal effort, but it cost $3500.

Ball Joints needed to be replaced (60,000 miles).

Sway bar fell out and was replaced. The following year they were recalled. Little good it did me.

Cams are not properly set, but ford finds them within limits. I put on 16 inch tires in place of the 15's and had problems with premature wear on the front right side. After 3 Ford service shops looked at it I finally had Pep Boys find and fix this problem. As far as Ford was concerned it wasn't my cams, but my tires.

Ball Joint broke again at 180,000 miles. Replaced and hopefully I will get another few thousand miles out of them.

Transmission started leaking at around 190,000 miles. Replaced gaskets and had the tranny fluid changed.

At 25,000 miles rear gear box was short on oil by 4 quarts. Not a good thing, but no damage seems to have been done.

At 125,000 miles my fuel pump died and needed replacing. It also happened to my father's truck at the same time. 1995 Ford Bronco. It was a very cold winter so that may have had something to do with it.

At 200,000 miles the speedometer works when it feels like it or after going over a bump just right.

Lumbar support switch died, it still pumps in the air, but doesn't hold it.

Power door lock died on the rear right side and had to be replaced and the rear right power window will only go up and down using the driver controls leaving passengers on that side of the vehicle at my mercy.

Doors are starting to stick and cannot be opened easily from the inside. This is probably due to the fact that we don't frequently open them from the inside.

This car handles well and has enough power to pull onto the highway even when traffic is a little heavy, but you need to work on timing your entrance and a running start doesn't hurt. Nothing near a V8 but very good for a V6.

The seats are very comfortable for those 6+ hour rides, even without the lumbar support.

It has held up rather well and though the problems seem to be extensive they were within my tolerance and I am very fond of this SUV.

It takes a little time getting used to especially if you are switching from a Sedan to an SUV as the center of gravity is higher and you can't make turns as quickly or sharply. I would definetly look into getting another one in the future.

I have an Eddie Bauer 2 wheel drive. Just turned 185,000 miles. Not much wrong until 2 years ago (100,000 mils) needed new tranny. Other than that just regular wear items it just keeps going and going! Oh forgot the small side of the split rear seat won't fold down.
