2000 Hyundai Sonata from North America - Comments

"If they were giving them away free, I would pass"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Airbag light on repeatedly; numerous trips to dealer/eventually recalled for this problem.

Shuddering, lunging, stalling of engine while driving vehicle-dangerous. Stalled and restarted 8-10 times in one week. Dealer would not fix because no "codes" were evident with their diagnostic equipment. A code could not be detected until the car stalled and I was stranded by the side of the road; had to be towed to the dealer.

After 8 months, the driver side window would not roll up intermittently.

After one year, the car would cut off AFTER refueling; a valve problem.

Automatic transmission jerky.

Paint began to peel on side of door and bumper after only a few years.

General comments?

I made the mistake of thinking the great warranty made it a great deal. The fact is you will need every bit of the warranty and then some.

I have regretted the day I got this vehicle ever since; it has been nothing, but trip after trip after trip to the dealer.

Each time I see another Hyundai Sonata driver on the road, I think "There goes another sucker".

I hope you're going to get this, is a poor spelling warning and English is my second language. I agree with your comment and I own a Sonata 2001 v6 with a 72k Km at board. After a minor accident my nightmare started. Poor job on paint and after the first car wash the paint was gone so back to body shop. Replacing the air bag took them about 3 weeks at a price of $3800 CAN each.I've install on this car a Viper alarm and they blame on it when my car stopped starting. With the alarm in box (removed) and charged $125 for this I took the car at home and did not start in next morning. Back to the dealer they found nothing after one day and took it back for the second time with the same problem in the next morning. Third time back to the dealer they told me a valve story in that morning and a ground wire lose in the afternoon and install my alarm back for free. No refound on the charge for removing, with the explanation somebody have to pay for all this work! Complain to headquarters for no reason charge after 3 months I've received an answer with "the dealer did a good job" and I'm a pain customer because my car did not start and after removing the alarm which is not a Hyundai the car started working. Now I have a vibration when I drive and stronger when I hit the brake. Michelin tires worn out after only 70 k km and even with new tires the vibration is still there. I hate this car and is my first and my last Hyundai. If you want more stories about this brand go to web site www.mycarsucks.com and read.

Ha ha ha.. a viper on a sonata. They're funny anywhere.. but on a Hyundai?

Spelling checkers are for spelling mistakes.. no excuse there. Thank you for posting that you are ESL..

There are plenty of native speakers who's grammar is much worse.
