1987 Mazda 121 LX from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Reliable, quiet, robust and climbs hills like Sir Edmund Hilary (the man who climbed Everest!)"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

In the time I had this car it never even stalled, its engine never failed to start and its tires never became worn.

I WOULD GIVE IT A 10/10 FOR RELIABILITY.

General comments?

A very robust car that could certainly cope with steep hills even though its engine size is 1.1. There is always a stereotype about small engines

eg. "the engine is very weak" but the small Mazda engine is very nippy and is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very quiet!

Very reliable. Very slow to accelarate from stop position. Lots of room for a small car. Engine Quiet. Ideal car for driving around city.

My 121 has been giving lots of trouble in wet weather. When the engine gets wet it stops and won't start.

It is very cheap to run, I do 750 Km per week on 50 litres of 91 petrol. The exhaust note is very quiet, but at over 80 Km/hr the motor does such high revs it sounds like its about to blow up, but it is only a four speed. So far the motor has not blown up and doesn't use any oil.

The tyres still haven't shown any signs of wearing out after the 30 000 Km I have travelled in my year of ownership.

Its been my first car and was an excellent car to learn in because it is so easy to drive and has such good visibility out the windows.

All in all I've been very happy with it.

Does anyone have the fun-top version and if so do you have a diagram on how the roof works because the one I have is broken. email: rock_goth211@hotmail.com.
