2003 Peugeot 807 GLX from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Great company car, but I wouldn't want to pay to run it myself"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Grab handle broke far too easily when used for the purpose it's designed for.

Seat runner covers have nearly all broken from one time to another.

The seal between the front doors and the air flow to the rear compartment has never fitted properly. It still doesn't even though Peugeot say it's fixed. They've now agreed it's not as bad on other 807s.

Fuel economy is poor - the trip computer shows 31mpg from the 2.2HDi engine used mostly on motorways.

The rear blinds have both been damaged due to a problematic design feature. Although this damage was my fault it could have been designed out by Peugeot.

The built in hands free car kit that comes as standard issue with the Satellite Navigation system cannot be used above 40mph. Otherwise the road noise for the person who is talking with you on the other end of the phone is unbearable. Peugeot have examined this and found no fault, but have also not been able to make any improvement.

General comments?

The car is well designed and thought out, but not necessarily well executed.

I like the features such as electric rear opening doors and rotatable seats.

The satellite navigation system is good although not as comprehensive as some of my colleagues - it does not have traffic updates built in, nor can you set a destination by post code. However it gets you to where you want to go!

The seating is tight for 7 people. You'd only want toddlers in the back two seats. Look at the photographs in the brochure and you'll see that the front row of seats are pushed quite forward. This means that with me at the driving seat (190cm) and an adult behind me there is virtually zero, maybe 10cm, of legroom for the back row. Of course with three rows you also have the smallest amount of space for luggage.

The 2.2HDi engine is smooth and strong, but I'm disappointed by the mpg that is reported by the built in trip computer. 31mpg is far from good for a diesel. It's also very poor on the emissions - an important issue for those of you paying company car tax.

Overall I like the car - it's very car, not van, like. But the build quality is more becoming of it's Fiat brother. Don't get me wrong it's reliable and well designed, but I don't know that I wouldn't go for an Espace or even large estate car in the future.

This is spot on.

I've had very similar problems with my 807, especially fuel economy.

I too agree to all the comments in review. I had many problem mainly with the alarm. I had approx. 20 different problems. I own a 2.2 HDI. What ever you do make sure you do not get the latest computer upgrade. I have top of the range model and had many problems after the computer upgrade. The head light in one big issues make sure you get a document of what is change and what is not.

What do you mean by "the build quality is more becoming of it's Fiat brother"? It has exactly the same build quality as the Fiat because they are built by the same people on the same line in the same factory. They aren't even built in batches - a Fiat, a Peugeot, a Citroen and a Lancia can (and regularly do) follow each other down the line.

We too have had many problems with the alarm, it has never really been sorted out despite numerous visits back to the dealer!Likewise we have also suffered with the roller blinds and were quoted the best part of £250 to replace one on a sliding door (£140 of this was labor costs due to need to remove all of the trim if not the door itself). In addition we have also had various engine faults, a leaking windscreen, faulty CD player and a fuel pre-heater that continues to run after the car is switched off thus causing a high pitch squeal and a plume of exhaust smoke from under the car.

I love the luxury on my 807 53plate 2.2hdi, much better than my previous Seat alhambra and much better specs for your money. However my car has now spent 4 weeks out of the 4 months I've had it back with the dealer. Keep having a problem with anti pollution fault and it losing power for a short time after the warning comes on. This is still under investigation, but my dealer has given me a courtesy car on each occassion. watch this space for updates on my reoccurring fault...

Just thought I would update you on my reoccurring anti pollution fault on my 807 2.2hdi 53 plate. It is all fixed now... it was a corroded wire loom and a faulty turbo in the engine. I have been told that the parts that have been replaced have cost £3000+ and the labour cost are in excess of £4000 (50+ hours @ £80per hour) In Peugeot's defence there service has been great and I have no complaints with it. my mpg has now increased to 35-40mpg!

I've had my 807 53 plate for appox 14 months and in that time its been back to peugeot at least 8 times for reoccurring faults i. e anti pollution, esp, ABS, engine management. recently my catalytic converter split at the weld, due to a very weak weld resulting in a repair bill of £862.00. My vehicle has 8 months warranty still left on it, peugeot are telling that the exhaust is only covered for two years.. At the time the vehicle was only 2 years and 1 month old has anyone had a similar problem like this??

We have an 03 2.2hdi with all the extras, the concept of the car is very good, alas the execution leave a lot to be desired!, I have suffered from very poor trim quality, grab handle falling off, seat adjustment switch falling off, door seals not fitting, we have never been in a situation where the car is free of problems, other issues are: sat nav/dvd system replaced, trackrod ends replaced, alarm always going off, heater fans replaced under warranty and have now stopped working again out of warranty, but under 12 months since replaced, Peugeot will not cover the cost this time, car also go, s straight into reverse and not fist gear, would not buy another one!

We've enjoyed driving our car, but it has been in and out of the garage continually since we bought it. We bought it from the local dealer in Dundee, who have been very pleasant. We have had a number of electrical problems and innumerable problems with the three-seat-bench that we bought for the car. The most recent problem was electrical again and the car has been in the garage for nearly four months. So the last three months of the warranty were spent in the garage. Peugeot will not automatically extend the warranty, despite the fact that the car has spent so long in the garage. We've just got the car back tonight and the indicator is not working. It just beggars belief!

Peugeot 807 '06 reg. Like all the other comments, we too have been in several dealerships trying to sort out our annoying problems. We have had an intermittent whistling sound coming from the passenger side sliding door since the day we drove off the forecourt. Despite several visits to the dealership we bought the car from, and our local one, they cannot fix the problem. We have apparently been given a new seal and had re-alignments done, but these have done nothing to improve the problem.

Then lo and behold, other problems started up as well. There's an intermittent sound that comes from underneath the car when you switch off the engine that resembles the sound of a distant vaccum cleaner, and there's intermittent problems with the acceleration, which causes the gearbox faulty warning signal to come up, followed by speed system faulty warning signal.

There is also a chirping sound from the left hand side of the engine when the temperature is set to above 21. This was a problem we had right at the start, and the dealership we bought the car from said that it was due to the heater parts in the engine. They put in new parts and the problem went away, but then a few months on, the problem returned.

My local dealership have been polite and have tried to find these faults, but have not solved any of the problems. They told their Customer Service at Head Office that as far as they were concerned, they had sorted out the problems, but if we wanted to come in again they would have another look. How can you say that you have sorted out the problems when they still occur?

Customer Service said all the trained phrases that you are expected to quote to pacify your customer, but implied that as we had not taken the car back since last April, then the car must have been OK. We, like many other customers, don't have the time to be trekking backwards and forwards to the garage; that's why we haven't been back.

After spending a year of going back to both dealerships, we have had enough. The customer service department have advised me to go to another dealership for a second opinion, and they have said that they will pay out after the guarantee time, if the car needs fixing in the future due to any of these existing problems that we have reported since the car was bought. We have requested this in writing. We don't hold out much hope for the next dealership to find the problems, but we shall try.
