"This car is a nightmare!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I wish I would have read the reviews on this car before I bought it!! It would have saved a lot of money!! I have never cried about a car before, but let me tell you I have shed a lot of tears over this one!! It has been the biggest nightmare for me and my husband!! We bought the car in 2001, we have put around 4500.00 into it. I have owed seven cars in my life and have never experienced anything like this. Here are my list of problems-

Brakes have been worked on five times!

Power Steering has been worked on four times!

Rack and pinion!

Transmission replaced!

Gasket work done!

Other things wrong, but have not been serviced-

Fan blower 1 and 2 do not work!

Stereo display does not work!

Rear defrost does not work!

Windows badly scratched from rolling up and down!

ABS and trac light come on all the time!

Other bad things about this car-

Bad traction!

Very bad gas mileage, I had an SUV that did better!

Hydroplanes easily! Very Scary!!

The transmission was the last repair which was last month, a few days ago the engine started making funny noises! More repairs yeah!!

General comments?

DO NOT EVER BUY A GRAND AM!! I feel like I am stuck in a bad relationship with this car! I owe more than it is worth, and I want to sell it outright, but I am overwhelmed with guilt when I think of putting this nightmare into someone else's hands!! I have thought about calling Pontiac to see if there is anything that can be done, but I have not kept records of my repairs! If anyone has a solution for me please let me know. I need out!!

Hi, I just sold my Grand Am GT. and YES it was the worst car that I have ever owned, I was seroiusly considering buying a forign car and then just maybe I could get a well built car! Before I even got to drive the car off the lot I noticed about 3 things that were going wrong with this thing. (gm certified used car) for instance: the heater resistor, rear driver side door panel falling apart, and the driver door ground affect falling off. and about 2 years later I finally got rid of it and I really feel sorry for who is to be next. I have a small list of things that were going wrong with this thing: the driver seat belt, plastic covering broke which resulted in every time you took off the seat belt it dropped all the way to the floor, the passenger side door reflector just one day fell off, the rear de-froster quit working in result of the tab that's sodierd to the window came off, the transmission was slipping pretty badly and I took it in and had the transmission fluid and filter changed and it helped for about a week and then back to the drawing board. They are really pretty cars to look at and that's about it.

To anyone who is concidering a Grand Am GT... just think this might be you buying this car...

I bought 2 Grand Am's and they both were terrible. I should have learned my lesson from the first one, but I gave it a second chance. Boy was I dumb!!!1 week after buying car alternator and battery died, CD stopped working, oil leak need I go on. I just bought a Hyundai and they suck to. I have bad luck with cars. Any good suggestions?

There's something called "The Lemon Law". I don't know much about it, but maybe you could look into it. One problem? You didn't keep records, so you have no documentation of the work you put into it. I would say you pretty much blew it by not doing so... and now you have no proof of the vehicle being a "lemon". Expensive lesson learned, I hope. If you remember the facilities that serviced the vehicle, you may possibly be able to retrieve information through VIN number. Might want to check into it. Good luck!

From what I know those Grand Ams have nothing grand about them. Nightmare of a car they are, that's about it. Get Honda or Toyota, Nissan or so and you can't ever face half of the problems Pontiac will provide. I know this from unfortunate Pontiac owners like yourself and from my own very pleasurable experience driving glorious Accord (what a nice name, isn't it). Liteary years of practically worry free ride in sweet and charming style. As for Hyundai, they are possibly now where Honda/Toyota were some 15 years ago (that's arbitrary, I know), which is 20 years ahead of GM and its offshots.

I love good stuff and that's why forever will stay away from bad cars. Future buyers: please read and compare. Get informed. If this happens I'm afraid there will be empty Honda showrooms left behind, because... all their cars will be sold out.

Grand Am-a cheap rental car.

To 14:30.

I'm not sure what your issue is with Grand Ams as I can see that you systematically went through almost every '99 year model review and posted a negative comment. I have a 2004 SE2 and have not had a single issue with it. At 50, 000 kms all of done is change the brakes once and regular oil changes. This has been a fantastic car for me. First year models always have some issue and we are now talking about 8 year old cars. Some people have completely unrealistic expectations about maintenance.

As for an Accord or a Camry being superior... well maybe, but they are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, and have the driving dynamics of a water bed. Besides they look like appliances. Some people want to drive a dishwasher to work. Not me.
