"I bought this car as a bit of fun before university and I've enjoyed it so much I'm going to take it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clutch replaced

2 front tyres

engine mounting

exhaust mid section replaced

cam belt replaced

parts are expensive

buy a haynes manual to save the bucks.

General comments?

Mine is standard, but came with 195/50/16 alloys and tyres which are not standard, but the low end performance is brutal 0-60 in 8 seconds with more torque than the tyres can handle however my redline starts at 6 but the engine tops out at 5750rpm with peak power at 4500. this to me seems strange as the counter ends at 7000rpm is this the case with all? maybe I have an after market gearbox? the top speed is supposed to be at 125mph, but mine is 115 max why is this? I have not managed to get it sideways there is just too much grip!! the seats are so comfy, but when installing 6x9's the wiring could not handle it even with my 4x45w pioneer head unit so I have stayed with the standard speakers which are suprisingly good!awesome car for a 19 year old! buy one for low end fun and resonable fuel 233mp tank (£26-27) don't buy this car for dual carriageway racing or high end cruising unless you have a lot of fuel. I bought this car as a bit of fun before university and I've enjoyed it so much I'm going to take it with me!

Nice review. My clio rsi is a K-plate I've hit 127mph then it limits on the rev limiter. I havewnt payed too much attention to the rev limiter, but I think it hits about 6K I don't normally take it that high, I've always wanted a quick clio and I'm obsessed by the williams. I can't bring myself to hoon the tarnish out of it, I just love the drive and everything about it! I'm a mechanic so when things go wrong, I normally put them right myself :) I'm also 19, great cars arnt they! gaz.

Rsi's seem quick until you drive a 16v :)

I am pretty sure the reason for your lower than expected top speed is the non-standard wheels you have fitted. Due to them being bigger than the standard-fit 14" items your speedo will under-read by just over 6%, which means when you are doing 125 genuine mph, the speedo will read 117mph. Bear this effect in mind for speed cameras as well!

Also, your economy is pretty appalling (26-27mpg), my RSi gets 42mpg (400 miles between fill-ups) and I don't hang about! Unless you drive everywhere flat-out, I would suggest the tyres might be the culprits again. Wider tyres will give greater rolling friction, but they may also be a bit flat, keeping your tyres pumped up can put 5mpg on your economy.

I hope you're still enjoying your RSi, though if you like to rev past 6k rpm, you might enjoy a valver ;)

Putting bigger wheels on the car will slow the aceleration down, but give a higher top end speed. Putting smaller wheels on the car gives quicker aceleration and lower top end.

Hi,

I've bought a 1.8 RSI as a runabout and a full tank (40 quid) is gone after 150 miles, and I'm a very sensible driver (bar the odd moment). Tyres are fine any other suggestions?

Thanks, Daz.
