I recently started having problems with steering in my 1998 Dodge Ram 4X4 Quad Cab. I have a severe vibration in the steering column and a terrible shimmy when I hit a bump or pothole. My mechanic has replaced everything that is loose or worn on the front end, including shocks, u-joints, track bar, stabilizer shock, plus my tires are only a year old, but he can't figure out what is causing this problem.
I never had any problems with my truck until about 3 months ago; until then it rode like a Cadillac. Anybody else have this problem? Please contact me at nicolac@insightbb.com.
I have a 1997 Ram 2500 with V10. It always drove like a dream until a few months ago. Then, when hitting a rough bump just right, it would go into a terrible shimmy. Have spent $1500 on all new front end parts, plus putting on new tires. Problem went away for a couple months. Once in awhile, it will go into a shimmy on hitting a bump, even at speeds as low as 20 mph. The only thing I haven't replaced is the entire steering column. How can I fix it? Contact me at pchazman@hotmail.com.
Jeeps have the same issue it sounds like you replaced everything I would tell you to replace with exception to one thing. Replace your pitman arm. That WILL fix it! Every Jeep I've owned does it and replace track bar, stabilizer bar, shocks and pitman arm have fixed it.
