For a 1.0 litre car, being able to top speed at 160 km/hr shows a tremendous engine and transmission capability. However, being the same platform with the Kenari, the characteristic of the transmission system seems to act rather different. The optimum torque for each gear shift occurs only after 3000 rpm and the rpm drops by 1000 after each gear shift thus losing its torque and power when the rpm begins for the next gear below 3000 rpm. Lots of gear shifting activity to maintain spontaneuos torque power.
Generally the car has striking features especially the 2 toned coloured Limited Edition.
Engine power and transmission range can be coped with more drag force applied prior to each gear change, but otherwise, a very economical engine to use.
Suspension seems weak and requires better performance suspension for better grip and reduced body roll.
That's the car I am driving now. Pick up is terribly good even it is a 1.o liter car. I feel great with Kelisa.
Are you sure you can hit 160kmh with your kelisa? The speedo moves up too fast and is inaccurate. Try checking it next time when you enter a highway past a speed detector. Speedo is at least 20kmh more than what your actual speed is. My kelisa just rattles too much (engine compartment and exhaust pipe) I wonder if they forgot to ad a screw to the pipe? Engine is also far too rough and noisy past 4000 rpm, but below that pick up is weak. Nokia handsfree is plain useless and outdated (how many ppl use the old NOkia anymore?) Fuel economy is nothing to brag about. Overall just a really expensive price to pay for a poor quality cheap car (40K). I would rather get a second hand car anytime.
When you buy a kelisa, drive it like it's meant to be driven. To me, a 1000cc car isn't supposed to be a racing car, and I don't believe in testing the limits of the speed capabilities. It's supposed to be economical, and it is, if you drive it the way it's supposed to be driven. Overall it beats the majority of Proton cars in terms of build quality and you can park it in practically any tiny parking spot. Lack of space means it's designed to be a second car though.
Kelisa is a great car to drive,,,, it's fun to drive with more powerfull cars 1.5ltr engines. Its nothing for Kelisa...
You can't expect much torque from a 1.0 liter car, but I must say the gearing is almost spot on having owned a 2002 model to date. For torque & better response throughout the entire rev range though not out and out power, you would have to install a free flow air filter, straight flow exhaust with the requisite silencing ability & an Apexi SAFC meter. Set up the whole shebang on a dyno & wallah, between 69 - 74 horses are available depending on the choice of exhaust chosen with a much flatter torque curve. Fuel economy is improved as the standard air-fuel ratio is a tad on the rich end of the scale.
I'm one of many owners of a Kelisa 850 and have been driving it since 2004. I feel quite satisfied and happy with the performance of this little car. From my driving experience (also hve tried driving a few other cars such as Wira 1.3, 1.5, Vios 1.5 and also turbo diesel 4WD vehicle), all I can say is this little fish has no problem at all to beat all of them in terms of perfomance especially pick up and fc. When I travel balik kampung, I often lead in hill driving (which also has lot of sharp curves as well) while the other bigger cars just follow and don't dare to overtake! Just imagine, merc and prado land cruiser at your tail 30 minutes to an hour on long hill climbing! This little car will only became lazy when loaded with more than the driver. Stability and sound proofing also very weak at high speed (more than 120 kph). I m now looking foward to buy Nissan Frontier 4WD 133hp as my second car. get it lowered and use 18" sport rim. Slurpp!! Okay guys, don't forget to drive fast, but safely. -Jems076.

This car may be a good economical car, but on the fun factor it just isn't there.
It's a fantastic small car to drive. reliability and practical in a busy town center. it's easy to drive, agile, fuel saving, comfort, good handling and it has the performance that is needed. what would you expect more???..a small car with a chractersitic like a BMW???...
I have kelisa gxi manual (2004 manufacture). It has already run nearly 50 000km.When it idles (stationary), it shows 850rpm at the meter. when it is running the rpm increases as normal. When I put my gear lever to neutral the rpm remains around 1300rpm without come to idle speed (850rpm). When I stop my car, within 5-6 seconds it returns to idle speed. Is this normal or is there a problem with my car. This is with out A/C and headlights. I replaced the air filter and maintain it in well. Please help me as I waste fuel unnecessarily. My E-mail

My ride is an auto 1000cc Kelisa 2003. The engine is rough at most rpms, but especially bad above around 2400 to 2800 rpm and also 3000rpm and above. When I changed to semi-synthetic with additives, the rpm above 3000 is solved. I was also recommended to change from Shell to Petronas, and it is so smooth and quiet now. The only problem left is the rather rough rev around 2500-2600 rpm. I tried the under bonnet sound absorber pads, but could not solve the problem. Is this an under-powered problem? Or a gear box problem? Or in need of an engine balance? Is there anyone out there who knows of a solution for this?
I have a 2003 Special Edition Kelisa. I love it. But the thing is, I'm kind of worried about the idling speed of my car during stationary. Its running below 800rpm. I think maybe at 600 rpm. So, that makes the steering wobbles and frankly, its very uncomfortable and annoying really. The fuel consumption is OK so far though. Any ideas? Thank you.
