Excessive debris under the paint, paint flaked off, dash came apart - pin stripping pieced together. Dealer tried buffing out the debris now I have buff burns and scrathes all over my car. Their solution made it worse.
I was told by a Pontiac rep that they do not paint to showroom quality, that I was being too picky and I should get the hood repainted for the 3rd time and live with the other defects because no one but me would ever see them. It is sad that quality and appearance is not an important issue with Pontiac.
I own a Grand Prix GT that is the forest green. Everybody that has seen my car loves the color and the quality of the paint. You might have got a bad apple, but don't please don't criticize the Grand Prix. In my opinion they are the best cars for the buck.
There are always factory defects to a certain point. I do agree with the customer service aspect, Pontiac didn't treat me very good either, that's why I custom ordered mine through a Fleet Lease company.
The Grand Prix GT is a superb car to drive. Minor problems.
One electric window motor replaced; headlights replaced with newer models; air bag harness replaced.
Bought at 5 miles and now have 27,500.
Coupe has extra leg room for tall people in the driver's seat.
Paint is superior.
Dealer service is excellent.
Am waiting for some slight restyling and will buy another GT.
I owned a 1999 SE with all the GT trimmings, but exhaust, and I loved it. I had an accident in 2002 with 124,000 miles and no problems save for a window motor (and I hear they tear up in just about every car out there). I am currently shopping for a 2002 just like it. I don't think I could be happy with any other car.
I have a 92 grand prix SE, bought it new in Dec 30/92 it now has 151,456 km on it and only real problem was head bolt had cracked and caused head leak. I agree with paint problem as went to dealer after 2 1/2 years about paint chipping from wheel wells and after repeatedly seeing warranty manager at dealer had gotten fixed under warranty. Typical of these cars is brakes and rear suspension spring splitting " typical for eastern coast of Canada ". I'm very pleased with the performance of this car over the years except for head problem, but this is why looking at a newer 98 model to exchange my car of 9 years. I'm not afraid of keeping my car as have repainted the complete car myself at home and it looks better after fixing the paint that had fallen bottom of doors, now it looks like a "new car" again. Kind of hate to get rid of it as it hasn't treated me that bad over the years, but like they say time to move forward!!!
I bought a 1998 Grand Prix SE for my wife in 2000 from a car rental company. It had around 50,000 miles at that time. It now has 108,000 and is still going strong. The only repair has been the driver's side window motor. The rest (brakes, struts, and tires) are routine maintenance. Generally speaking we are pleased with the vehicle. It does have a few quirks, however. On any given day you can never be sure which of the electric windows are going to operate.
I'm not sure, yet, if I'd buy another front wheel drive Pontiac. If it gives me over 150,000 miles of dependable service, without the engine or trans-axle going, I will be pleased.
I have a 1998 Grand Prix GT. I got it in Feb. of 2003 and have had nothing but problems. I have had the passenger back power window motor fixed 6 times, a new EGR valve put in, back passenger side brake caliper locked up (in compressed position), coolant sensor went out, and now it doesn't idle. It revs up high and then way down over and over until it dies.
If it weren't for the awesome people over at where I got it, I would have gone crazy. It is under warranty yet, so that saved me almost $1,000 already with parts and labor.
The body and paint is superb. I'm thinking that I either have really bad luck on this car or if it is a lemon. Oh, it has 75,500 miles on it now.
1998 grand prix gt.
I love it, but like what was said earlier you never know what window is not going to work and they have never been able to fix it.
I have a 1998 Pontiac grand Prix GT. I bought my car in November 2000. When I got my car I noticed that it has been in some kind of an accident and that the service engine light was on and off at diffrent times. I am disapointed with the dealer that did not explain to me that there was a problem so now all I can do is customize it the best way that I can.
I have a 1998 Grand Prix GT that I bought in may 2004. The only problem that I have had with my car is the air bag light. I love my car & I have had many compliments on it.
I have a 92 & 93 Grand Am A 4 Dr & a 2 Dr,
The paint is 70 percent gone from the hood, lots of the roof & trunk, Have Mobile 1 in it 150000 miles no motor problems
at all, Paint is good on 93 but electric windows are a shot in the dark, 93 really goes 3.3 A fun car to drive.
