The head gasket went at 53,000 miles.
Electrical problems kept draining the battery.
Otherwise only wear and tear related problems.
This car drove very smoothly and handled well in the snow. Acceleration is very good and it is comfortable for long trips. It proved itself to be a very safe car when it met its end in a deep ditch and I escaped scratch free.
I just wanted to say that the 93 Ford Taurus kicks butt, it is the best car ever. Mine has 210 000 miles and still runs like a beast. If you get a chance, take it off road, it is a hardcore good time.
My 93 Ford Taurus and 3.8 6cyl engine. This car has had every problem imaginable plus some you can't. A coil spring broke right in the middle of traffic. This car only has 75,000 miles on it and now the head gasket is blown and it needs a new engine. You were sure lucky with yours. My transmission had to be replaced at 39,000 miles. I should have parted company with the car then.
I have a 93 Sable with the 3.8 engine. The car is very comfortable and smooth. I believe that Ford have one of the nicest suspensions. I'm surprised more people don't mention that.
Any problems? Sure, I've had problems, it's a car. Most have been wear and tear so far, except having to replace two water pumps over the past 14 months. However, that might be expected with rebuilt parts. I have 241 thousand km so about 150k miles. I bought then car three years ago with 151 thousand km for 5000 (Canadian). So, all in all it's been a bargain. I've yet to replace the transmission or engine/head gasket. I'm pretty sure this engine is the original.
To me, a Taurus is a good used buy. People worry about depreciation, but depreciation is great when you're buying used.
