"Hopefully the engineers will fix the oil loss problem and front end vibration with the new STS"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I purchased my 1998 Cadillac Seville STS in January of 2004 with which had 86,000 miles. It currently has 105,000 miles. Ever since I had the car I have put in at least one quart of oil about every 300 miles depending on how hard I drive the vehicle. After reading all of the other opinions concerning this vehicle I've come to the conclusion that there is a major problem with the engine and it would probably be to expensive for Cadillac to fix the problem or have a recall. Even though I have to put in an unusually large amount of oil in the vehicle, sorry to say I still like the car. I guess I have to keep topping it off. I also changed to 50 weight oil and it has helped out as far as oil loss.

Two weeks ago the front end of my vehicle also started acting up and I doubt if they are the tires. Nothing appears to be visually wrong with them and they drove fine for almost 20,000 miles. I was going to balance and rotate the tires, but after reading about

the other writers experiences I doubt if that will solve the problem. One writer wrote something about a pressure test. I have never heard of that, is it the same thing as speed balancing the tires, can anyone say recall?

As long as there is oil in the car I guess I won't have any major problems.

.

General comments?

Other than the two major problem I mentioned I haven't had a problem with the car. I also would also like to

ask the past writer who wrote about a Volkswagon driving circles around an sts. What Volkswagen is he taking about? I don't know too many Volkwagens that can do 155 MPH.

I too had the problem of excess oil consumption in my 1998 Cadillac Seville. I had to add oil every 1,000 miles, but since the last oil change have not to add any oil. Not sure what the difference is, but it is over the 3,000 mile point.

I own a 1998 Seville STS, I first posted in Oct 2004,regarding oil consumption. My car started overheating and I blew the head gaskets recently. I just bought a rebuilt engine and will it installed soon. I also recently was talking with a friend who does mechanical work part time and he did the heads on his 1994 Cadillac, it not the northstar engine, but has a similiar coolant system. His car started overheating after he changed his waterpump. After doing the heads, his car was still overheating. After checking his coolant system he found silicone in the steel house that runs into the intake. One side of the hose has a larger hole, the other side has a much smaller hole, where the silicone was stuck. After clearing the line his car stopped overheating. He looked at my car and it had a similar steel hose on the right hand side of the engine block where the coolant runs through. When we started my car up, the coolant was barely running back into the reservoir from the rubber line that runs out of the engine into the reservoir and at times completely stopped. When I take my car to the mechanic to have my engine installed, I will be sure to have the mechanic check all the small rubber hoses including the metal line that has the coolant running through them. Also my car also started to overheat when I recently changed my water pump. I also hear that the dexcool coolant coagulates and could possible block the coolant lines, but I don't think its enough I will post again after my coolant system is checked and my engine is installed. My, engine cost 3,600.00 dollars, but I think the car is worth fixing.
