"Never again will I buy GMC"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

All four brake rotors pealed apart at 12,000mi.

Speed sensor in hub went at 17,000. Wich caused a complete loss of brakes.

Exhaust manifolds were replaced at 12,000mi. because of warping and broken bolts. The truck was brought back to dealer for the same problem at 36,500. Iwas told it was to far out of warranty to fix.

Drivers side manual window is hard to operate. with three trips back to have it fixed it is still not working.

Winshield washer pump is no longer working.

Engine stalls and won't idol with three trips again no problem was found. My GMC van is at the dealer for the same problem and once again they can't find a problem.

General comments?

This is the most disappoimting truck I have ever bought. By the way I owned two dodges.

Yes, the first two years of the GM trucks with rear disc brakes were rough. I owned a 2000 GMC Z71. The truck had mostly highway miles on it when, at 62,000mi, the brakes began making a slight scraping sound. It wasn't until 65,000mi the noise was loud enough to warranty concern. The brake pads in the rear were worn to metal and the rotors had deep grooves. The brakes had been dragging for a while, but this was the first time they had been looked at in 65,000mi. I traded this truck in at 67,500mi and bought an new identical 2002 GMC. I apply anti-sieze to the caliper sliders when I rotate my tires, and this has solved the problem! I have 45,000mi on this truck and with simple maintenance, it is in perfict running order. My father purched a 4x4 Dodge in '98 with a 318ci. Wow, 225Hp and 17mi/gal highway from the Dodge looked real poor when my 2000 4x4 GMC with 295Hp 324ci (5.3L) was getting 19mi highway. Both trucks were short box, standard cab with 245/75R16 tires. The Dodge had 3.55:1 rear, and the GMC had 3.73:1. Besides having a availible Cummins engine, Dodges are hands-down a joke against the "professional grade" GMC. You don't believe me, look at the "blue book" values, or ask a sales men about trade-in values. Every time the GMC beats Dodge!

I too own a 2000 GMC Sierra with the rear disc brakes. I changed the rotor and pads at 65K miles with very little difficulty. Granted I am from Michigan and know to expect severe rust ringing to occur as well as (for vehicles from 1995 and newer) to expect to have to replace rotors vice machining them and putting the original ones back on. Additionally, to the idle problem, my truck (when I first got it in 2002) had a terrible idle problem. After 8 hours online with GM tech support in Dearborn (the truck was with me in Norfolk, VA) the dealer uplinked OBD1 and OBD2 error reports to resolve a fuel pressure regulator (or sensor, I forget which now) with that repair I have had no further problems electronically or mechanically; except that even in the 2X4 drive and with the 4.8L V8, my gas mileage has dropped down to 15MPG with the snow tires on it. Just don't forget to change the coolant at 5 years or 75K miles because it will break down and DESTROY seals throughout the engine! (happened to a friend of mine, over a thousand dollars in damage) Has anyone else had a problem with the air filter vacuum replacement indicator? Most vehicle manufacturers recommend changing the air filter every 12K miles or once a year (same time to do the wiper blades)

What about transmission fluid?
