I have had my car in the shop three times in the past six weeks. When I go to turn my car on, it will just not start. The lights, radio and everything works. When I turn the key, nothing happens at all. This happened two times. I had to get the car towed to the dealer. When the dealer looked at it the next morning, the car turned right on. The first time they changed the ignition switch. The second time they changed the starter. However, they stated since they could not duplicate the problem there was no way of fixing it. There is nothing they could do. Just the other day I was backing out of a parking spot. I put the car in reverse, the in drive. When I put the car in drive I stepped on the gas and nothing!! The same thing. The radio, lights and everything worked. The car would just not do anything. I turned the car off and turned it back on again. I left the car at the dealer. I contacted Chevy. they said there is nothing they could do if the dealer could not duplicate the problem. This is the third day my car is at the dealer. They still cannot duplicate the problem.
This car is extremely unreliable. When I wake up in the morning I never know if my car will start.
I also had the same problem just this morning with my 2003 Trailblazer not starting. Everything worked, but it wouldn't start. I have just spent three hours at the Chevrolet place having an alternator replaced.
They did not mention the other things.
Well the alternator was not the problem. My 2003 Trailblazer is now back in the shop. But this time it wouldn't start for the dealership either. They have called GM in on this and they have no idea what is wrong with the car. It has now been at the dealership 4 days. It's pretty sad when the manufacturing can't find out what is wrong with their product. Maybe there will be a recall on the vehicles if and when they figure out what is going on.
Well...it's back. The dealership put a ignition switch on it and said that the switch was kicking the anti-theft mode in. That is why it will start sometimes and he also warned that you could be going down the road and it would also stop. I'm not sure that this will work, but it did start. But my question was how do I prevent the anti theft device from doing this again. Sounds to me like there should be a recall on all the ignition switches if this is what is causing the system to mess up. I would think that either Chevrolet needs to recall for ignition switches or figure out how we can stop the anti theft system from coming on.
I ran into the no-start issue last night on my wife's 2003 Trailblazer (lights work, radio, etc.). I had to have it towed to the dealer, which is closed until Monday (not to mention the problem happened on Friday night (what a drag) )..
We'll see what the dealer finds or doesn't. Overall we like the vehicle, but it has had it's share of issues (leaking seal front end) 5 trips to dealer. The funny part was the mechanic was told by GM what to do (cheapest fix), when GM finally agreed to the mechanic's recommendation it was fixed. After the last visit he personally told me if this doesn't fix it, I'll drive it into the lake for me (I thanked him).
I am in the real world. You need to read what I wrote again. I said there should be a recall because I have heard of others doing this. In fact mine is now back in the shop and they are working with Chevrolet to buy the vehicle back. Next time you should add the comment as to why you were visiting this site to begin with. I came here to read if anyone else had problems and there seems to be at least one other than me. That is why I commented on this survey. So you pay 30,000 for a new vehicle and then come back and tell me welcome to the real world when you miss work because you can't get there.
I have been reviewing the comments on the Trailblazers and have a 2002 LS that has similar problems with not starting. Everything else (horn, heater, lights, etc.) works, but the car won't start. This has happened 3 times so far. Initially it happened around two and a half years ago, but started for the dealer the next day. Then again approximately a month ago when it was towed to the dealership and a battery installed. The next week it failed to start again and was towed back to the dealership. They were initially unable to start it upon arrival, but when the mechanic went outside to check it the next day, it started right away. The dealer is also perplexed by this and said that diagnostics showed no trouble codes. He said that since the problem started when in the warranty period, he would try to make repairs under warranty... WHEN it happened again since there was no other way to diagnose it. This vehicle is driven by my wife and we are very leery to have her take it to visit her parents (about 300 miles away). I will keep my eyes on posts for any similar problems and will update this site if I have any more information.
Same problem tonight on my wifes trailblazer. We have had it for two weeks. It was in the shop twice to have the fan replaced for a ticking noise and now it won't start. All lights, heater, etc. work. It is going in tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
I had the same problem with my 2000 Chev Silverado 2500 pick-up.After two years and several parts changes the dealer finally determined that the Anti-theft system was to blame. I believe it was misreading my key computer chip and not allowing me to start my vehicle. Something was replaced and there were no further incidents.
2005 Chevy Trailblazer ext.
DO NOT BUY ONE>>>
Ours has so much wind noise it sounds like riding
in a wind tunnel. The biggest problem Chevrolet
cannot fix the problem. We have complaints into
Chevrolet and went as far as turning it over to
the Better Business Bureau. What else do people
do after putting this much money in a new vehicle.
My father-in-law owns a 2003 Trailblazer and the car was wonderful up until this morning when we got up and tried to start it and nothing happened. Everything comes on, but it will not start and from reading everyone else's comments this seems to be a regular occurence. The radio and everything comes on, but it just won't start.
I own a 2003 Trailblazer and have the same not starting problem. Thank you for talking about the Anti theft because that is something I will have them check. I replaced the battery, but I am still having the problem. Another issue I've had to deal with repeatedly is the wiring in the taillights and the head lights. The wiring harness going to the headlight apparently got too hot and it melted therefore my headlight wouldn't work. Dealership was going to charge me $240 to replace harness. I bought the part for $13 and it took 2 hours, but replaced it myself. I think the electrical systems in these vehicles is terrible as is evidenced by all the recalls. I can't believe a wiring harness that isn't located even close to the headlight and is in a sealed area would melt! I would never by a trailblazer again nor would I recommend one to anybody.
Has anyone had any luck having this problem fixed or have you just had to live with it?
Hello anyone with a 2003 chevrolet Trailblazer. I have read the previous comments on what has gone wrong with your vehicles and I am currently looking at buying one very soon, but I would greatly appreciate it if any of you would be so kind as to tell me how many kilometers you had on the vehicle at that point in time when it did not start! thank you it would be greatly appreciated for helping in my decision. I would also like to know if there was anything else that might be a heads up towards doing something to the truck that could put me or my family in danger! once again thanks!!!
For anyone that is having problems with a trailblazer not starting, the problem is your ignition switch is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is not an alternator, or anything else. Don't let the dealers give you the run around. There is a TSB for this though I'm not sure of the number.
We are having this very same problem with our 03 Trailblazer. It will not start, but the lights, radio, etc. all work. It has been to the dealership 3 times now, last time they said the battery was dead and installed a new one, but it wouldn't start again the next day. It has now been sitting at the dealership for 3 days, but it is starting fine for them. We are going to tell them just to go ahead and install a new ignition switch, even though they are reluctant to say that this is the problem. Just wondering if this solved the problem for anyone else, or if there is something else we should consider... any response is greatly appreciated.
