2000 Holden Vectra CD from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"A very nice car to drive, but the electronics are a nightmare"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Speed stopped working associated with ABS and TC fault lights on.

Fault is intermittent and random. i.e. The car will go for 50 to 60 km without a problem then the Speedo stops and the lights come on again. May go for 10 km or so then will start working again.

General comments?

Have so far changed Transmission speed sensor, and new front ABS sensor. This did not fix the fault so put old front sensor onto other side. Still no go.

I am hoping someone out there has had a problem like this fixed to point me in the right direction. Holden were not helpful at all.

I believe that the ABS is not at fault here. The speed is sensed at the transmission and signals are sent to the ABS and Speedometer systems. If the speedo fails (at the speedo itself or any associated wiring/grounds), then that will bring on the TC and ABS lights also.

Look at the speedo system before spending a fortune on ABS Modules.

There are heaps of forums on the internet related to this problem on a number of different cars. Although they may be different cars with differing systems, the fault still seems to point to the speedometer.

Has there been any further developments with the resolution of this (speedometer, ABS, TC ....) problem?...

I have the same problems. Holden garage has done tests, but nothing comes up and it also cuts out at times!!

Would appreciate more feedback to compare.

Same problem here, ABS and tc warning light comes on while driving and staying on, then engine cuts out while stoping on the traffic lights etc. I noticed ABS and tc comes on after fan cuts in around 92 degrees. Tested today at local garage, they said ABS module doesn't give signal to ecu so need to be replaced, they didn't know how much it'll be but like I see online cost a fortune. I might send it to be rebuild probably.

Very bad problem hmm...

Our car is currently getting a second hand ABS Controller so will advise if that fixes it. Our symptoms are EXACTLY the same. PS We already have a new Alternator and a bill for $1080 in labour (not including the labour on the ABS controller) - I also believe these Holden repairers have no idea what they are doing.

I got quotes for the ABS module NZ$4500 for new parts, $2500 for second hand, We are trying one found for $500 with a 6 month warranty. Fingers crossed.

Replaced the ABS module NZ$500 for new parts + $300 labour and it appears to have solved the problem. Will road test and re-post if it reoccurs (ie did not solve the problem).

Problem is solved here with replacing the actual electronic part of the ABS control module. I just picked one from the wrecker 150 $ and did it by myself. If someone need advice, I have all the diagrams and test procedures for bosch 5.3 ABS control module for Holden Vectra 1997-2002. Don't get charged a fortune from auto electricians, I'm also an auto electrician.
