General comments?

"Black & Chrome" with 130,000 miles and my Z71 looks as good as the day I bought it.

Looks can be deceiving.

Body and Drive Train - excellent.

Electrical Components and Systems - poor service and quality.

What my trucks overall performance be if I towed a boat or trailer, ran off road, hauled heavy loads?

My silverado just hit 260,000 miles and all I have replaced is the rotors, water pump, alternator and fuel pump. Considering I am a traveling salesman that takes me into Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Nevada. The roads I ride are just not Interstate travels. I carry a Cooler also that is over 1,000 pounds. The silverado is much better that the other trucks I have owned. To make sure you don't have HIGH repair costs. I keep mine well serviced. I do most repairs my own.

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Z71 and have nothing, but problems. I have had replaced the alternator, motor, fuel pump, and transmission (2 times). I love the look and performance of my truck, but when it comes to repair costs, it isn't worth the trouble.

I also got one of these animals. I am surprised you didn't have an intake manifold coolant leak. Everyone I know with the 4.3 up to the 5.7 97 and 98 had leaks.

I disagree with your rotor complaint, they are consumable like the pads. Usually they don't make more than 2 or 3 brake jobs before you can't cut em again.

Yep the other ones kinda wear on ya. I too had the fuel pump go and the wiper motor.

Good luck anyhoo.

I have one of these also and I love my truck. I to have had to replace alternator, fuel pump, intake manifold leak and also the wiper motor. I have spent a lot of money in repairs, but it has 134,00 miles and I plan on putting a lot more miles on this baby I will probably never get rid of it since it was my fathers and this truck was his baby. After all car repairs are a fact of life for most of us I will have mine for years to come. Good luck to all y'all.
