The land rover has had a numerous amount of problems. The main problems have to deal with the engine, and getting a $1300 tune up every 35 days of so. Its been a nightmare that will soon be coming to an end.
The front and back sun roof leaks, which I've had repaired 4times now at the dealership and it still leaks when it rains.
The 5 disk CD player had to be replaced once since I've owned it.
The rear left brake light always seems to go out.
The front low fog lights seem to get filled with water and go out.
The sun visors lights never come on when expected. Had to replace numerous bulbs, and still don't work.
This vehicle can sure haul, and it pulls my horse trailer great. Which I've only pulled once, due to the rental cars which we get. Which seems like 3days a month.
The car has terrible brakes which get worn down, and usually needs replacing after 3months or so.
This car is used back and forth to work only. Never has touched mud, no sand.
It's a high quality vehicle with too many unexpected problems.
For instance the 70,000 mile tune up is $1400, and the 95,000 mile tune up is $1200.
Its still a gas hog, and I average about 16mpg on the freeway, and 12-14 in the city.
This had been my biggest money spender for the past 5years.
My next car will be the BMW X5, or maybe helicopter, due to all the problems and high traffic in SEATTLE, WA.
If you own this car already I wish you the best of luck.
We also own a 1999 Discovery II and have had an awful ordeal with the roof leaking every time it rains. We have owned the car for only two years and have been dealing with this problem for two years. We have taken it in at least 6 times for this and at least a dozen for all the other problems i.e..oil leaks, steering column noise. The dealer keeps putting a band-aid on the problem, but as of today it is raining and we are once again in a rental car and am sorry to have not listened to others when we bought this lemon.
I FEEL YOUR PAIN, We all made the same mistake. Never again a land rover. Also never again with a mecedes-benz 300E. My first lemon. land rover is my second.
I've had one for two years now and it's a peach - suggest you try a different dealer! water leak problem is most likely to be the seal round the windscreen.
We have a 1999 Discovery and have had nothing, but great times with it. No major problems, as long as the maintenance schedule was followed. After our Rover, driving any other SUV just isn't the same anymore.
I live in South Africa where we have much less rain than in the USA. I also happen to own a Discovery, 2002 TD5 Auto with two factory fitted sunroofs and no leaks. I have another Land Rover as well, a 1992 110 Defender station wagon V8 with leaks everywhere, but what the hell! it is a serious 4x4.
Since I bought the Disco I had nothing, but joy. I have covered 159 000km (100 000 miles) and no real problems. It is a very capable 4x4 and haul weight at speed over bad roads. The trick seems to be oil change every 10 000km and full service every 20 000km.
My V8 Defender has covered 350 000km of which 80% is in the real deep bush with limited or no roads. She has given me several small problems, mostly rattles and the only mechanical let-down was a broken clutch at 150 000km. I maintain this car myself now due to the cost at the dealer and I hope to keep it for another 10 years or so.
I love my Land Rovers and they suit my lifestyle. Good maintenance by myself seems the answer.

I have a 1999 Dicovery series II. The vehicle seems to requre dealer maintenece for most issues like the brakes, I have repaced them several times at non-Land Rover shops and aways had to get it redone at the dealer. I have also replaced the head gasket, mass air flow sensor and plug wires, all at considerable cost. Regardless of the repairs I would not want to drive another truck. This vehicle is a solid machine, built as off road vehicles were intended. It drives relentlessly straight on the highway and there has never been a rattle over a bump, the truck remains tight and I expect no changes in the future.
I own a 03' Disco II and so far it proves to be a solid vehicle. This is my second Disco, first being a 95. I am very happy about the increase in power, from a 3.9L to a 4.6L. The engine size and the distributorless ignition really generate a huge power difference, especially up hills. No more dropping it into 3rd to keep up with traffic. Like many, there were water leaks from the start. In Connecticut, where I purchased the vehicle, the dealership never water tested it. Three days later when I moved down to Atlanta, GA and relocated my new vehicle to the neighborhood dealership, they said the doors were out of alignment, which happens often enough that dealers are supposed to check for this when receiving vehicles from the factory. So problem discovered and corrected. The big mystery leak took four visits and a stroke of luck. When ever a hard rain came, especially from the passenger side of the vehicle, water would pour out the seat belt slot in the pillar when coming to a stop at the bottom of the driveway. Not so good for the person riding along. After talking about a "Buy Back" with Land Rover because I thought the unfixable problem on a new vehicle was legally irresponsible of them (LR), the company called the dealer to make sure they put all their effort into fixing the problem for the final time. Upon bringing the vehicle in, it rained the night before and this time in addition, the plug for the GPS, was loose and leaked into the head liner. This one I could see for myself. Anyway, upon fixing that they tested the seal on the side moon roof and found an air bubble that ruptured, letting in water, which collected in some interior roofline of the body and poured forward and out the seatbelt pillar. So a bad seal replaced and finally, NO MORE LEAKS! Other than that, the poor gas mileage, which I tried fixing by replacing the air box with a cone filter, seems to be always getting worse. I have rockslider/side steps, but the weight should not be an issue. When the window sticker said 12/16 mpg, it should have just read 12 mpg all the time because I will not get better than 300 miles to the tank. Who knows? Still a great vehicle!!!

I second this ad, the Series 2 Rover I currently drive is in the shop every month. The dealership tries to screw you over in every way. If you're a woman, and drop your car off at the shop, and they know you have a deep pocket they will take you to the cleaners. My total bill for this car has been well over 45 thousand dollars. Roughly 1400 dollars a month, this is ridiculous.
I love my new land rover, and carfax said it had no problems. mine is a 2002 SE7 and easily carries 7 of my friends to the beach. this car is great for picking up the ladies too, it makes you look rich.
My 1999 SD II roof Leaked from the top left front conner of the driver's side. I have no sunroofs. I used to park the car angled with the front side up when it rained before I figured it was dripping from roof rack. Applying a clear water resistant seal around the foam helps guide water around and stopped the leak.
And the back door latch continued to get sticked after three visits to the dealer. A free moisture resistant bulb grease from auto-zone fixed it. I could have saved $75 and 3 trips to the dealer. Just remove the logo to allow more room. It snaps in and out. I have had some problems with my truck, but I am hoping for a better future.
My disco 2 which is a 200 model has been back to the dealer five times under warranty they said the had fixed the water ingress by replacing the front sunroof it is now out of warranty and still leaks when heavy rain occurs any ideas.
I have a Discovery II, 2003 Land Rover. Since the beginning it has been a "LEMON". I have taken it to the shop numerous times, to fix leaks, Replace Ceiling Liner twice, replace broken Spark Plug Cables, more than twice, brake problems, replace seat covers, they got stained, and right now it has been at the Land Rover Shop since November 20, 2006, and still have not gotten it back, and the problem it has cannot be fixed. I have been trying to get them to take back the unit, and never again see their faces, but they just won't budge. I will take them to court for this "LEMON' they sold me. I have waited too long to do this, but it is still under warranty, so they better take back the unit and return my money.

This is so shocking. After all, Land Rover is renowned for its top-flight quality that complements its top-flight ergonomics and fuel economy.
Hello, my name is Ant and I have just purchased my second Land rover Discovery td5 (upgraded headlight model) and what can I say... yet another quality motor from the land rover lads! no other motor would do me, cheap to run, easy to maintain and a towing weight and capability not matched by any other, hey and guess what? I have x2 sun roofs and they let nothing, but sunshine through them! as for the new disco 3, Really cracked motor, but I am a td5 man any day. happy days! Ant.11233
