I had gotten the water pump replaced at 71,000 miles, along with the radiator and drive belt.
Tires done at 94,000 miles.
Driver's side outside mirror refuses to go right to left under its own power, must move it with my hand. Even then, there is no resistance and it moves every once in a while.
Power antenna motor likes to run even if the antenna is all the way up or down.
The NP249J 4WD system (Quadra Trac) is a good idea, but it is a poorly executed idea.
The 5.2 V8 has excellent power from any speed.
Transmission has an annoying jerk and clunk when shifted into reverse. I've seen Dodge trucks with the same noise and jerking, so I guess its just normal for the Chrysler V8 trannies?
The exhaust system sounds pretty good for a stock system, much less a Jeep!
The seats are excellent for long-trip comfort and the dual power option is pretty handy.
I avg. 17.3 MPG.
94 thousand miles on one set of tires? Congrats! If the cooling system had so many problems I would be very careful about the type of coolants used. It suggests they were mixed which can accelerate corrosion.
I bought the Jeep with 68,000 miles on it. The tires that it had on it lasted until 94,000 with minimal problems, except the scary blowout session I experienced.
When I had the water pump done, I examined the radiator and decided to replace that part as well just as a preventative measure. The drive belt originally on it also looked like it was time to go, so I had done that as well.
101,980 miles now and still loving every minute of driving this machine!
UPDATE from original poster at 141,000 miles...
Well, after topping off the trans fluid to cure an annoying tranny flare/slip, the front differential pinion bearing literally ate itself alive around 137,000 miles. I dropped the front drive shaft and continue to drive the vehicle in 2WD. V8 + 2WD + wet or non-paved roads = wheelspin galore! Kind of fun if you're like me and enjoy having a little bit of fun once in a while.
ASD relay went out at 140,000 miles, causing a no-start condition. Swapped with A/C Relay (same part number) and cured the problem. However, the fuel pump is now getting increasingly louder each day, so the time I will be spending with this vehicle is counting down, and fast.
However, as this vehicle has been reduced to woods beater, she can take a lickin' and keep on comin'. No matter how big the jump or how hard the landing is, she'll still drive.. somtimes even straighter then when I started out!
Looking at a brand new Wrangler. The legend of "Ol' Faithful" will live on forever.
