"A very solid piece of quality German engineering"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car had vague steering when I brought it. Ended up replacing the front dampers, suspension bushes, tie rod ball joints and lower ball joints. Did the work myself and made a huge difference. Cost around £150 for all parts.

Offside front wheel bearing became noisy. Replaced that myself and cost around £30.

Performance can feel slightly sluggish sometimes, not sure if it is a sensor fault, dirty injectors or a computer problem.

Has the traditional "tappet noise" when starting up; requires replacement of the oil check valves. I have got the parts to do thi and it is quite a simple job.

General comments?

This is my third Audi, and is the best I have owned. Since working on the suspension the handling is fantastic and very confidence inspiring. Although the engine can sometimes feel sluggish the acceleration it provides is very good; it is also very smooth on the motorways.

The interior is quite dark, but does make you feel very safe within the car, the seats are very supportive and comfortable and the material has hardly worn. The layout of the dashboard and ancilliary instruments is also very good, Audi have obviously put some effort into this area.

Main dealer parts can be expensive, so I use independent motor factors which keeps costs down. On the other hand my local dealer is very accommodating and spent a couple of hours trying to diagnose the performance problem. Didn't charge me anything.

For an eleven year old car it is fantastic, it doesn't look modern, but it doesn't look dated either. The insurance is also very surprising, £600 per annum for a 22 year old with one years no claims discount!

Hallo!

My name is Marcus and I have an Audi 2,0E - 93. It has 277000 km on the wheels, but still runs good and smoothly!

I have one problem though... I have to check the oil stick about every 1000 km... The car "drinks" oil... is that a usual phenomenon on these cars?

/Marcus.

I have a 1993 80, has 160000m on the clock. Clutch is snatchy, not sure why. Other than that, an excellent 'super banger'. Drinks oil too- have to check every 500m or so. Changing the oil every 5000m. Engine is solid, starts very easily, even in the cold after a long break. Electric sunroof, electric mirrors, central locking, but manual windows!
