This car is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I was still in school when I first bought this piece of sh*t and I have had nothing but problems.
I am now changing my fuel pump for the third time, I'm on my second alternator, my fans I don't even know how many I went through, my check engine light has been on for almost a year now and no garages can take it out permanently without taking out the bulb. The tires have all been replaced 3 times in a year which has cost me over $3800 dollars, not to say the drink holder is the worst design one I have ever seen due to the fact that every time you turn your drink is spilled all over you or your passenger, The sun roof clips broke costing me $1000 dollars to fix which of course was well worth it to get fixed just like every thing else on this car because it's likely to broke within days after.
Please people save your money and buy something that won't cost you $50000 dollars in the long run.
Well comments for this car would be to much to write in words, but advice on the other hand is as simple as just not buying it.
Sounds like a boy racer's car to me...
3 sets of tyres in a year? I have a Cougar here in the UK, where we have "corners" which wear the tyres out a bit faster. We also have faster speed limits which wear tyres faster, yet on my last pair of front tyres I covered over 22,000 miles and still had 2mm of tread left when I replaced them. The back tyres have covered 34,000 miles and have 4mm of tread left.
I bought my 5 year old 2.5 V6 X with 78k miles a month ago after having fully checked it's history with Ford. None of the parts you have complained about have been or have needed to be changed. Serviced at proper intervals, on only it's second set of tyres and this car feels as tight as anything I have ever driven. I used to drive a VW Corrado and I thought I would be hard pushed to find a drive anywhere close to it's handling, Well I have in the Cougar. The smile factor is fantastic, and I do occasionally have a heavy right foot at the lights! :) )
I've got to say yours is the worse review I have ever read of any car and it would appear to be either purely down to your own inability to drive or you, as has been mentioned, consider yourself to be a bit of a boy racer.
Sounds like a boy racer to me too!!! these cars are fantastic!! that's all I can say the engine check light is probably on due to the way you drive it! the engine is probably trying to tell you something!!
While I really like my 1999 Cougar, I am on my 4TH FUEL PUMP in 7 years, 2nd in the past 9 months, and have notified Mercury/Ford. Last pump should still be under warranty.
Wonder what it is about this car and fuel pumps? See other web entries complaining about the fuel pumps.
And yes, High School Harry above, sounds like the cause of most of his problems!
