At around 60,000 miles, the Oxygen sensor light came on. I brought it back to the dealer for a new sensor, but came back again later. I left it on ever since. I later read on-line that it is fairly common among the 1993 models.
The head-gasket blew at around 100,000+ miles. Oil leaks and sluggish running. Fixed it recently. No leaks.
Around 110,000 miles, shocks needed to changed and brakes were shot. Problem fixed at around 120,000 miles.
Currently, valve timing needs adjustment, engine seems like its working harder than it should, which will cost me around 400 dollars.
The rear hatch door won't close - so I sprayed it with some Gunk de-greaser, then applied some silicone lubricant. Problem solved.
The 1993 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD was within my budget. I liked it a lot when it first came out of the showroom. It was reliable although comfort level was decent. The winter and snow days proved to be a test. This truck did such a great job that it tackled a 6 foot snow during a blizzard condition with an inch thick ice underneath. Maintain it and it will serve you well. The O2 sensor light was another story. It just stayed there and I left it alone.
Hello,
I too own a '93 Rodeo S. I wish I knew how much I loved this truck when I got it. It has been the most reliable vehicle. Still a strong runner.
The body work was good once, but I bought it used in 2000 and it had a little over 78,000.I have put over 110,000 miles on it myself.
It does burn oil so I have to keep an eye on it. The O2 sensor is on, and last year in March I had to put a few hundred in to it due to my gas filler pipe rusting out and dirt getting into the tank ruining the fuel tank and pump and fuel injectors. Needless to say it was a lot of trouble, but if I would have kept up on the rust I would have noticed the pipe.
Other than that it is a great truck! I'm thinking about having it totally rebuilt ground up. Just can't bear to see it go to waste. It still has life in it.
I have recently bought a used '98 Rodeo that has cause me nothing, but grief since I bought it 2 weeks ago, and only has 57,000 miles on it. I wish I would have taken the money that I spent on buying the '98 and just put it in the '93.
Isuzu should have left a good thing alone. Guess they never heard the saying "If it isn't broke don't fix it"
