As of yet, nothing major. I have, on the other hand, have had battery trouble, due to corrosion of the terminals.
Gas Mileage, Maneuvering, and Gear Ratio (which goes with Gas Mileage) are the downsides to this vehicle.
First off, allow me to say that I love Chevrolet, and prefer Vortec over any other engine on the market. But I get around 15 to the gallon (overall) with a 4.3 liter V6 (with two and a half inch dual exhaust), which isn't too bad I suppose. Gear Ratio... there is little or no difference at all b/w 4th and 5th gears (manual), meaning that once you hit 65, you're not doing too well on gas anymore due to RPM's. : (, but as long as your RPM's are low, you're doing alright.
This vehicle is very difficult to maneuver. Overall, it is a very smooth ride, but when traveling around 70 in fast winds, you can feel the truck being knocked by the wind. I bought it used with dual 2.5" exhaust put on it, and it sounds just like a V8, surprisingly. It was also raised a little, which could possibly tear away at the gas mileage (drag). The Vortec (whether it be V6 or V8) is reputed as being a user-friendly motor, and I have always heard "as long as you take care of it, it will run good as new", which I have found to be true (even with my old 93 blazer with the Vortec V6.) Vortec always exceeds everyone else as far as power goes, which I like, but in hand comes very poor gas mileage.
Turning radius is not good at all. I would even say it is piss-poor. It takes me a good 3 tries to park at Wal-Mart, which gets old. For being 10 years old and having 220+ thousand miles... I am very impressed. Stock Vortec V6 pushes a little over 200 hp, but with these pipes, and what I have in the engine, I am pushing about 300 right now (pipes mainly). LOADS of power.
First off the 1995 chevrolet silverado had a T.B.I Throttle Body Injection. 1996 was the first year for the Vortec engines. As a personal preferance I like the T.B.I engines better because there is a lot less plastic to work on. On the Vortec engines the whole upper intake is plastic. But with the T.B.I everything is much more simpler to work on. The T.B.I engines are also less expensive to work on also...
Vortec didn't come out till 1996 so your blazer couldn't of had a Vortec v6 unless you had engine replaced with a newer motor and the 4.3 doesn't put out 200 h.p. with pipes. 5.7 has bout 200 stock the 4.3 only has 160h.p. I doubt pipes would add 40 h.p. just correcting ya =)
Actually Chevy did make a vortec before 96 I know for a fact that some '94 blazers had a 4.3 vortec that put out 200 hp. Not sure about full size, but the s10's did have a vortec. Just correcting ya :)
Sorry, but I think the vortec motor was first introduced in 1989.
I say they had it in 2004. Definately.
Its the old trade off now with newer vehicles.
More horsepower = worse mpg; happier driver
less horsepower = better mpg; less happier driver.
I have a 1994 Chevy c1500 with the VORTEC engine (and it's a 4.3)... Want proof? Email me at secretaznman69@hotmail.com. I'll send you a pic of my engine, it says "Vortec" on the head covers, and they are factory head covers!!!
So yeah, they have been introduced in 94, possibly earlier, however, the earlier vortecs (prior to 96) do not pack as much HP and TQ as the newer (96+) vortecs.
Yea I own a 94 chev c 1500 and it has 211,000 miles on it and is a vortec 4.3l v6, still runnin like its new. They made vortec 4.3l a couple years before they made vortec 5.7l v8s. The v8s changed to vortecs half way through 1995 and were all vortecs in '96. I'm very happy with my truck and get about 18 mpg on the hwy. The gear ratio is just fine it run 2000 rpms at 70 mph.
Chevy has had the 4.3 liter V6 since 1985 or 1986 and even the carberated version was called Vortec.
