1991 Volkswagen Golf GTi from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Fuel Hose victoria clip loosened letting too much air into the fuel/air mix causing poor acceleration. Fixed during service by turning the screw!

Plastic box attached to the engine with two thermostats and three coolant pipes developed a leak.

Both this and my previous Golf developed very heavy clutches. I am used to this, but may deter other people.

General comments?

Unfortunately once the pleasure of owning a near perfect condition Mk2 Golf wears off I began to realise that the 8 V (115bhp) just wasn't fast enough - even though it was an improvement over my old GL4+e (90bhp). I think I will be upgrading to a VW Corrado VR6 next time if the bank balance allows.

Hi there I have also got a mk 2 golf gti 8 valve and the mileage is on 175000 yes and its still the same engine as put in from the factory. I do agree with you when you say

use have got use to the cars power, after driving mine I'm getting the same effect. I've raced audi tt's and kept at the side of them!!! it puts most new higher performance cars to shame.

It's a £1000 pocket rocket buy one now!

And as for the focus cosworth ford has lost the plot the older escorts and sierra's were faster.
