Tie rods
rust
steering knuckle.
I purchased this 1983 CJ-7 in stock condition. The only part that was not stock was the 31 inch tires.
I have done a spring over lift, moved my shock mounts, and added longer shocks, put 33x12.50 pro comp mudders with pro comp rock crawler rims.
I bought 3/8" diamond plate and plated over all the rust areas.
I have made front and rear bumpers out of square tubing and added a winch.
I have only taken it off road 2 times since all work done. It has handled well so far.
I do have carb issues. I can't seem to get the carb tuned right.
I love this Jeep. I suggest people who want to get into wheeling, purchase a CJ-7.
That is the truth. I am on my Second CJ7 258 6cyl. needs Different Carb. Or even better fuel Injection.
I just bought my first cj7-1983,and have a good bit of work ahead of me. Any tips on where to find parts,ie. drivers side steering knuckle?
Listen up my man!
I owned the same year and model Jeep as you, it was a 1983 CJ-7 with only 52,000 original miles on it, I bought it in 1995 and it was in mint condition, it had everything.
2 sets of rims and tires
3 different tops..Hard- Soft- and Bikini top
2 sets of doors, Hard and Soft doors
Body was flawless
Engine was clean and not a leak anywhere!
...The carburetor was GARBAGE! I spent over $1900 dollars in failed attempts to get the thing to stop stalling, and sputtering, and basically running like an older Jeep does.
Do yourself a favor... rip out the old 258 6cyl. and slap in a crate motor or something other than a jeep motor and carb... they will NEVER run smooth.
Good l...l...lu...luu...luc...luuck...with the sputtering Jeep.
I own a 76 CJ5 with a 258 and it runs smooth and performs well off road. Never had a problem until you get it on a very steep hill.
