Absolutly nothing. A couple of services (and that's just 2 in over 40,000 miles), a couple of tyres and some fuel. And maybe a wash or two (no only one!) Brilliant!
Probably the most reliable car that has ever been made. At 183,000 abused miles this thing is still going and it's only got the LITTLE 1.6 engine that does struggle a bit with all that body.
Totally original with FULL service history until I got it. Nothing but the usuals (exhaust etc) have ever been done. Trusting motoring taking me over 300 miles in a light week without a thought. Turn the key and go!
I had one of these cars (1988 model) up until a couple of weeks ago when someone didn't realise what a turn-right arrow meant and ploughed into the front, passenger-side of me at about 25-30mph, the car stood this very well losing just the front wing which ended up a bit bent round the passenger door and although the other car which was much newer needed to be towed away, the policeman drove mine round the corner!
With 180,000 miles on the clock this car has been a dream, had it about 5 years and in all that time hardly had any problems, needed a new set of tyres, an exhaust and a new starter motor in all that time, not much really considering the first two are not meant to last that long anyway! Went over a year between services which included air/oil filters, sparks yet still held its own delivering respectable amounts of power even though I had just the 1.6 model! It would sit at 100mph (of course in off-road situations) quite happily with a smooth ride and was regularly abused i.e. 20 in 1st gear, 50 in 2nd etc yet the engine sounded smooth as anything although I never had it tuned while I had it.
A brilliantly made car that performed brilliantly time after time even in situations where other cars would struggle, a brilliant hill-climber! I would recommend one to anybody, the only downside being that I had the model without power steering so steering could sometimes be quite heavy, definitely look for the one with power steering!
