"Tempo's are really a fast 4cyl"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing much has happened that is major.

I have changed a waterpump, replaced the tires on it.

General comments?

This is a nice car to own if you want to get somewhere. I have gone many places with this car. It seems to be better than everyone says it is. I have even took it to a drag strip and came 2 sec behind a Camro. I think most people over look a Tempo cause of its name. I plan on fixing up this car and keeping it.

I agree with you Steven. I have a 1992 ford tempo 3.2 liter 5-speed that my dad gave me when I turned 14. The tempo is really underestimated. No real problems with the car yet with 168,000 miles. People think its just a 4-door family car, but it has potential to be pretty quick in fact I raced one of my friends who has a 93 eclipse and beat him in the 1/4 mile by about 2 car lengths. I love this car. Great car for a good price.

I agree with you. My Tempo is not FAST, but it's quicker than you'd think it'd be. Quicker than an '86 Escort and '92 Mustang with the four banger. Parts are cheap, too. Good, solid simple car. Without an overdrive it really winds out on the highway. Later!

I love this car. I purchased my 1994 2.3 liter 5 speed manual transmission 4 door Tempo new. It now (August 2006) has 228,000 miles on it with only minor repairs.

The engineer that designed the manual transmission gear ratios really had his head on straight. There are no extreme gear changes between any two gears and at 60 miles per hour I can be in third, forth, or fifth gear.

I get my best gas mileage on hot dry days cruising at speeds close to 80 mph. I have made 47 mpg in these conditions. My in town gas mileage is always poor, less than 20 mpg.

When you read all the positive comments about the Ford Tempo, you realize that it is truly a classic.

Small cars are all sporty. The Tempo adds reliability to the equation. Ford beat Ferrari at Lemans in the '60s with that very strength. The Ford GTs were not the fastest cars on the track, but they outlasted everyone else and won the races.

We had three of these cars, and all just lasted forever with minor service. I liked them so much, believe it or not, I just bought another. It has the 2.3 HSC engine, and runs like a dream.
