I had a condition in which my vehicle had to be left for a week with a fuel indicator problem. The meter would not read and the fuel tank would not fill due to the fuel pump system breaking loose. The truck was in this condition when I bought it. This took two weeks to repair due to the dealership inability to fault isolate the problem.
The rear tire has blown when hitting a pothole at low speed causing damage to the braking system.
Sadly, this truck is no longer the inexpensive workhorse truck it used to be.
I have an 03 Dakota Quad Cab 4X4, with the 4.7 liter V-8. I love my Dakota! In my humble opinion, I think Dodge absolutely ruined the Dakota with the re-vamped, 05 model. This thing looks awful!!! What were the design engineers at Dodge thinking???
Dump the Dakota and go check out the new 05 Toyota Tacoma Quad 4X4, with the new V-6 engine. Toyota has a great product here! That will be my next 4X4 truck.
Bought a new 2005 in 2006 on a loss leader sale. Bought it on a whim to replace my 1987 Jeep Comanche with 200K miles. It has the 3.7L V6 4spd auto 4X4. Got it for $11K off the sticker price so it was not a hot selling truck! But that's OK because I bought it as a basic work and hunting truck truck and not as any kind of statement. It drives very nice, handles well. Generally pleasant. Power is marginal from the small engine. Fuel mileage is a total disappointment. Compared to the 19-22 MPG I got out of my 17 year old 4.0L inline 6 cylinder push rod cast iron Comanche, I would think Dodge could do equal or better, but I have only been getting 16-18 MPG. In general, plastic work is good and simple and easy to keep clean, most important with a Real dog. Style needs many "farkles" to help. Generally, "Serves its Purpose." Good enough for a plain Jane.
