1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass international from North America - Comments

"Make me another one like this one...PLEASE"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At a 181,000+ mile record, not too much, let see.

A hose, battery, water pump, clutch, heater core, CV joint,... and a bunch of tires, and a couple of brake jobs. Wow. What a bang for the buck.

General comments?

This has been the longest lasting car I ever owned, and the most pleasure. And it handles the road like a champ, and a 2.8L, 5 speed manual shift that just will not give up.

Too bad old age has set in. It is not looking as young as is ounce did, with the small rust spots, and the car that hit me in the side at 40MPH right in the drivers door a few years back (I'm just fine, thanks to this car).

With a 181,000, I sure got my value out of it, but with now the gas tank leaking, exhaust system needing total replacment. I think it's time to part, and find it a new owner.

You'll never be able to get another one of these. You have

General Motors' stupidity to thank for that.

Hello,

I own a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Series with 116000+ miles on it. It is a great car and I love it. I too am pissed with General Motors discontinuing the Oldsmobile. When my Olds passes on, I am buying any car brand besides GM. I was offered $2,000 for my car today and I know that I simply cannot find another automobile as comfortable and luxurious as this one. I have a 3.1 V6 automatic engine in mine and this baby is as quiet as a mouse! My car has no rust and looks like it was just purchased!

I as well have a 1988 Cutlass Supreme Intl. in Wisconsin. Mine has 256k miles on it. 2.8L, 4 Spd Auto, Silver 2dr.

I have replaced the usual, battery, struts, brakes, etc, but overall, she is holding up well. The tranny is getting tired, you can tell, but at that age and use, I respect that.

I have the pleasure of owning a very well taken care of 1989 Cutlass Supreme International. It's a crime that GM discontinued this vehicle and the Oldsmobile line. If you can find one with a manual transmission, buy it. These are much more powerful than their automatic sisters. They are also the rarest of the 63,000 examples built between 1988-1993.

I love mine - at over 200,000 miles it still runs new, looks great, and is an absolute joy to drive.

I thought my 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Series went fast. I had no idea that the Manual Shift ones went faster. Now you've got me curious. Mine has 117,830 miles on it and I can still get her up to 92 MPH on a country road. I have the Automatic 3.1 V6 engine. Mind you, my Oldsmobile is like brand new and has an engine so clean you can cook a steak on it. It is also religiously cared for. I love these cars and I know GM must be kicking themselves for eliminating the Oldsmobile line.

I too own a 1989 Cutlass Supreme International. Owned it since birth, and considered moving on to something else from time to time, but never can find the same value in anything else. This one is the 2.8 - 5 speed. At 190,000 miles, I only recently had to replace the original battery. Getting very tired now and recently lost reverse and having trouble finding another to replace.

I've considered selling again, but as I sit in the car, too many good memories, so probably will wait until I find another transmission, and continue to drive. The car still looks good and I am always proud to drive it. No it wasn't my father's Oldsmobile, but it certainly was my daughter's father and continues to be family.

Hey everyone I have a 92 cutlass supreme international and I have the rarest of them all cause it is a five speed 3.4L.

I don't know how many of them where made, but I have been told for that year they only produced 37 with a stick. i went to a dealership to find a clutch and they did not know that such a cutlass of that year existed. they offered me $5,000 for the car as it sat bad clutch and all. the body if good and all four seats are as well with normal wear. if anyone knows how many where produced please let me know. i have only seen one other like mine in the states. all others have automatics.
