When I first bought the car the entire suspension had to be replaced.
The heater only worked on the highest setting, until I payed 125.00 to have it repaired.
The door hinges were a constant problem having to be replaced every two months.
The head gasket blew at 90,000kms.
The top pan gasket blew just shortly after that.
Received 4 recalls in one week. A bearing in the steering could let go after 60 kph; Ignition relay switch allowed more current to go through and could cause a fire; Air bags would deploy if the floor became too wet; Malfunction of the gas pump in the tank could cause an explosion.
These recalls were all repaired after the 6 hour trip to the repair depot.
The cabin light was another recall I received after about 1 month. Seems the light would refuse to go off and could catch the headliner on fire.
The car was in the garage for electrical problems regarding check engine light, anti-lock brake light, oil light, and temperature gauge.
The fuel gauge was never right even after being replaced 8 times. The gauge showed more fuel then you really had.
Even though we have paved roads I was replacing the struts at least twice per year.
On January 2,2005 the car caught on fire and burned. According to the reports the fuel lines rubbed through and fuel sprayed onto the hot exhaust. When the air bags blew, the front seats went through the rear window. Good thing I was not inside. I will never buy a caviler again. Right now I am looking for a 1991 - 1995 Jeep.
You've just had a really bad motoring experience, don't tempt fate by buying a Jeep. Are you mad?!!
Well back again. Deciding now on either a 2000 Dodge Neon, or a 2001 Chev Cavalier. Loved the Jeep experience for a few months. Gas is the problem right now, over 6 bucks a gallon. Its also expected to go up. Yes this is Canada. Going for the Chev once again.
"I will never buy a caviler (sic) again" Those are your words. Now you're saying your buying another Cavalier?
You have a great future in politics!
Well realizing my error in judgement about not buying a cavalier again. I was looking at one and I thought about the previous comment. Say hello to my 1999 JEEP Grand Cherokee. Yes it has the 6 cylinder. I love it. Lots of room for me and my buddy and our hunting gear. Handles very well on the road and for the vehicle its got pretty good gas mileage. Our gas right now is only 98.9 per liter. All options except leather seats. Since Auguest only prob I had was keeping it clean. Changed the oil for some high grade Synthetic and the engine purrs. Thanks for the comments and I will pass on the politics for my current job of 5 years... Carpentry. A jeep with a wood smell. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Most entertaining interview ever.
Well Had the first accident. Some guy rear-ended me while I was waiting to turn into my driveway. He scratched my bumper. His car was totalled. Gotta love imports. Toyota Celica. Shot of spray paint (3.95/can) no damage. Going for a lift package and some other enhancements this summer to run 32's. Deer/Moose hunting here I come.
Hi there.
I notice you own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
It "was" an awsome car. Me and a few friend own some Jeep GC. (1993, 1997 and 1999) Well, I suggest to sell/trade ASAP if you don't have warranty. Mines (1993) is scrap now. as too TOO much electrical problems, Axle problems and engine problems. engine was rebuilt twice. Axle gear messed up and damage. windows wouldn't work properly, doors would lock up (close) and the list goes on and on and on... same story with the other jeeps, lucky the 1999 had warranty, but my friend saw the problems that I had trade it in and got a Lexus rx300. what can I say, perfection not a problem at all.
I use to love these Jeep and somewhat (10%) I still do. But with the experience I had. I wouldn't accept to get a jeep.
Thanks for the info on the Cavalier. I was planning to get something like that for a "winter beater" now going to look else where.
Thanks again.
