"Nice car, rotten service"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Remote fuel cover would not open. Rear door sag. Front power seat does not operate in one direction. Thermostat failed. Traction control sensor reported as bad when it wasn't.

General comments?

All in all I have been happy with the car. The biggest complaints that I have are with the service provided by the dealerships. Within 6 months the front power seat began to act up and this was reported to the dealer 3 times and each time the problem was not corrected. We paid for scheduled maintenance and when the matenance period ended we continued to have the car serviced by Land Rover, at two different dealerships. Recently the car began to have serious problems and we were forced to take the car to an independent Land Rover reapair shop. You can imagine my surprise when he pulled a sparl plug and it was burned nearly to the porcelain. In his opinion the spark plugs could not have been changed in at least 2 years, this in spite of 2 paid maintenance visits to Land Rover. Ended up with $500.00+ in repairs as plug wires and coil were damaged. What exactly did Land Rover charge me for?

In a separate incident a warning light related to traction control came on, and traction control no longer functioned. The Land Rover dealership that i took the car too quoted me $1300.00 to reaplce a "bad sensor". I declined and after doing some research on the Internt I discovered that the sensors can becoame dirty in winter driving conditions. I took the car to a car wash and blasted the undercarriage and wheel wells. Two years later and I have never had a problem.

The rear door is almost impossible to fix... The door weighs almost 100lbs, and will just return to it's annoying self in no time, but you COULD try removing the hatch and placing a shim in the bottom hinge... It worked for me for about a year... But rest assured that now that Ford owns the beast, there will be lots of rigs you could do. Also, the FUEL door will NOT open if the vehicle is RUNNING..it's a federal law that states you have to turn the vehicle OFF while refueling... I once got fined $450 for leaving my car on while operating the pump... Welcome to the LR family, trust me, we'll grow on you...

Hello.

I have a 99 LR Discovery II. I live in a rural town in northern AZ called Page and am 4 1/2 hours from the nearest Land Rover Dealer. The following lights are stuck on:

Traction

ABS

Downhill with Exclamation point

Service Engine Soon (it has 54k miles)

Is there anyway to get rid of these lights without having to drive this gas-eating machine 9 hours (there and back)? It would cost 70 dollars in gas, not to mention just adding more miles on the thing. Plus, I don't know if I should drive it with these lights on or not. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

George.

This will answer the last response. I had the same problem happen to my 99 Disco II after I drove thru a high power car wash. I got home and disconnected the battery totally for about 5 minutes. This totally solved the problem.

To the man who owns the 99 land rover

I have a 2000 discovery II, had the same problem. One of the plugs to the main wiring harness to the computer was loose and dirty just needed cleaning up. I absolutely love my Land rover. You need to find a mechanic who knows about land rovers that won't try to charge you ungodly fees. That's exactly what I did.

I have an 04 Discovery and the Service Engine Soon light is on. Can you please let me know if there is a way to turn the light off, that does not involve going to the dealership.

I have already tried disconnecting the battery and that has not helped.

Thanks.

I have a 93 Discovery that is having the following problem:

A drastic lack of power (comes and goes) with absolutely no throttle response. At low speed this is ususally accompanied with a quick flash of a yellow warning light, with an explanation point in it, and then the car quits. It will restart without out a problem after a short wait.

The problem is continually getting worse and now appears at highway speeds. The problem is the same, but there is a hard miss, the engine shuts down, and then restarts almost immediately - no doubt from the high speed turning the engine over as the problem goes away.

The following repairs have not made a difference:

New Coil

Fuel pick up cleaned and filters replaced

Rebuilt fuel injection

Cleaned adjusted and reinstalled injectors

Replaced Vacuum hoses

New fuel pump.

The only Rover repair shop in Southern Costa Rica is a master at Land and Range Rovers, but he is also going bald quickly.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
