"Low cost to maintain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Really nothing. I am an ase mechanic for a ford dealer in so. california. I have replaced a clogged fuel filter that caused some stalling on the highway, esp when climbing hills. for those of you that have problems with your brake rotors warping, (causes vibration when stepping on the brake pedal) get some aftermarket rotors (bendix work very well) as they are thicker than factory units so they handle the heat better and cause less warpage. Hope this helps anyone out there.

General comments?

The Taurus is like any other car out there, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Make sure you change the fuel filter, for some reason the taurus is prone to clogging fuel filters. I have almost 90000 miles on it and have not had any serious problems with the car. Just remember that EVERY car out there will wear out the brakes and everything else on the car sooner or later..

I have to say I agree 100% with your comment that if you take care of your car it will take care of you. I've owned foreign and domestic and I really can't see an appreciable difference in quality between the two.

Some people never perform the required maintenance on their cars (this goes above and beyond just changing the oil, and some people don't even do that) and they expect their car to last forever. Not only that, but they drive their cars VERY hard and then complain when something tears up as a result of their abuse. Brakes, belts, tires and a few other items WEAR OUT and are supposed to be replaced as part of an overall maintenance plan. This concept, while simple, evades a lot of people.

I've rode with some people who say "Oh, I treat my car good" and "I treat it like a baby", only to get out thinking I would never let them drive anything I own. This includes full-throttle starts, frequent hard and sudden braking, running over raised railroad tracks and other rough surfaces full speed ahead, among many other abuses.

Just wanted to say I agree the the ASE mechanic's comment. Take care of your car, and it will take care of you.
