Slight whine from the transmission- It's no big deal and doesn't seem to be getting worse.
I must say, this is a mighty fine car. I just love the styling and comfort.
It's okay in stop and go traffic, could use a bit more punch off the line, but I'm not complaining.
It's absolutely excellent on the highway. Very smooth at 70+mph and seems to have plenty of power at speed; where most cars seem to lack. For the weight of the car, it handles quite well and the suspension, even with 120k+ seems like quite a good mix for both comfort and handling.
The interior is laid out very well and is quite comfortable. Pretty much everything in the interior still looks and functions like new even after 10 years, something I can't say about most 2-3 year old cars I've owned.
The AWD is great! Never even slipped a wheel in deep snow or ice.
Parts are VERY expensive for this car if you buy them from a dealership or from your mechanic. DO NOT do this. Online parts houses will have parts for a third of what the dealership or a mechanic will charge (e.g. dealer wants $200 for water pump, OEM german part is online for $60). Find a good place like autohausaz. com or force5auto.com.
Hey, I own a 94 Audi 100cs, and I just love it. I agree with it needing better acceleration, but it has good power at top speeds. This car has features on it that most new cars don't have. (Heated seats, power and tilting sunroof, power everything, premium sound system, fine leather, 16'' aluminum rims, etc.) One complaint is that the fan on the heater whines after about 20 minutes of use, and there is a slight squeaking noise that comes from the left front tire. Mine has 160,000 miles on it, and the way it performs I'd say its good until at least 200,000.
After 4 years ownership and 81,000 km (total 277,000 KM) I must say that my 1994 100 avant is the best of 9 cars I have owned. With 277k KM on the odometer, she's squeaky and tired, but will not hesitate to go for a high speed 150 km/h run down the road and still willing to power through the twists and turns. Heavy and slow off the line, the sohc 2.8L V6 pulls harder with each leg of the journey in the dry, wet and best of all in the snow. Fit and finish and the Bose stereo is second to none- still looks modern for a 14 year old car.
I'm trading her in two days for a VW Passat V6, I'm sure my memories will last long after this Audi's gone.
