I am contemplating to either get a Proton Gen-2 or Waja since both prices are almost the same. Reading the review do not help as it only frighten you to the extent of forget about getting a car and just use the public transport. I heard that Waja parts are more expensive and this is a major factor when selecting proton cars as you never know how long its survival period. Gen2 looks more sophisticated and solid unlike Waja, but it is not all about appearance, right? Even proton have difficulty advising consumer on these choices and it was told that if you are a "family man" get Waja and vice versa. Strange right? The size of the car might be different, but can Waja slot 6 passenger (including the driver) and not got summoned if being caught. Please help me to decide???
Hi...I've bought my Gen2 about 3 months back. It was a 2005 model and heard from a relative who works for EON says that 2005 models are rectified/upgraded models from the 2004 batches. Anyway I have no complains about the car. Only 2 thumbs up. It's a great car. Style and power is there although it does take a while to accelarate compared to other japanese cars. I've compared Waja and Gen2. Waja is slightly more spacious and and it'll definitely fit a family of 6 better compared to Gen2. So decision is up to you. I took my risk and went for the Gen2 despite family and friends opposing and bad media coverage. Well... Now even my parents are pretty impress with it.
Cheers!
Hi, Glad to hear that the 2005 model is much better than the 2004. I've recently booked my Gen 2, despite of all objections from family and friends. Gen 2 certainly has a very bad reputation, media and people around. Anyway, when I went to the showrooms, came across a few cars in the show room itself with faulty door. he doors can't be open from the outside. But since the have the promotion for the 4 yrs warranty, I decided to risk it. I fell in love with its sporty and funky design.
I'm struggling to purchase a Vios or a Gen 2 in this coming July, I still can't make up my mind either to get a Gen 2 or Vios, however Gen 2 is still my choice, due to the
affordable price, vios is reliable, but expensive, most of the people I know object to my decision to get a Gen 2, reason being the poor quality!!, I've been reading all the review and the truth really freak me out, is nice and relief to hear that the 2005 model have less problem? it will increase my confident in getting one, but the problem is that how truth is it? and how much efford have Proton put in to improve the faulty machenism???
There have been minor problems pertaining to doors and power windows since day 1 proton was established. I wonder why after so many years these faults still come about. Don't they learn anything from past problems? I'm grateful my Gen-2 have not been giving any problems. But I've got a friend who experienced some engine noises from her "limited" edition Gen-2. Yes... the Black coloured with leather seats edition that costs her RM62k I think. I've test driven a Vios and to be frank... Vios does have a much better acceleration. In fact I was impressed with the performance, but it's not as stable compared to the Gen-2 when cruising at a high speed. Yes... The price of a Vios is quite high for a 1.5 and I personally didn't like the design of the Vios or City. Would rather spend more on the Altis or Civic. Cheers!
My 2005 model is giving problem now after 4mths. There's this knocking sound when I corner and driving over a speed bump. In fact many here had posted the same problem out. Managed to learn a thing or two from those who faces the same problem. Will be sending my car for service on the 3rd. Hope the SC knows how to rectify it without giving any new problem. Very disappointed with the Quality Control.
Leong.
Well, the defect rate as announced by Proton was 2 (I think). That means if you are unlucky, you will get the 2 cars out of 10. The rest of the 8 will have no complaints. I heard they have changed their sub-contractors - those supplying substandard interior parts to Proton. So, I am confident the newer models, maybe even 2006 models will be just PERFECT!
Sorry, I did not mean 2 defects out of 10 cars. I think it is 2%. Not sure of the denominator.
Bought one new in 2005. Total piece of junk. 2 weeks after I got it, the power window motor seized on the driver's side (what a surprise). Few months later, rear control arm bushing on passenger side smashed. The final blow was when I was caught in a traffic jam and the radiator tank seam on the left side starting leaking water. Overheated and had to pull off the side of the road. I bought this car with the thought that it would be a reliable daily driver, but when my other car (a '80 Porsche 928) gives me far less trouble than this new car, that is an unacceptable situation. Sold it last year and bought my mother's '03 Kelisa. Been happy with the Kelisa, reliable and frugal. Thanks for nothing, Proton!
I trade in my Kelisa for gen 2 auto. Why? It is more comfortable, stable and have loads of space in the cabin and booth. Very good at traveling long distances. Have no problems since having it. Looks lovely at all angles. Love the car.
I have a gen 2 and I just have one word for the gen 2 comment/feedback.Lousy!!! I plan to sell it off and won't buy any proton car again in the future. Service lousy, performance unstable, no comfort, etc...
