"Non posers dream"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear suspension needed welding plus crack in wheel arch both factory faults.

General comments?

This in my opinion is the best 1980s car on the road with its fine 2.5 td 95bhp unstressed engine

nice crisp styling that first appeared in 1979 without computer aided design

this is what you call a car and still not burning a drop of oil and heading for 281000 miles.

Quick tip regarding turbo diesel engine Peugeot 505 (or vehicle with this engine). If the car shows no intention of starting with the engine warm, it may be that the stop solenoid plunger has stuck. If switching ignition between ON/OFF rapidly fails to free it, try removing the electrical supply (you have to lift the bonnet) and with the ignition ON, splash the cable to stop solenoid brass body. This may free the plunger; listen for a "click". Reconnect the electrical supply and you’ll be home in time for high tea. Of course you can always try tapping it with a hammer. It is written: "When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail". Changing the stop solenoid is quite a struggle as it's in a confined space.

Mines done 380000km, over Easter holidays did the most enjoyable trip of my life, first to a Peugeot Paegent up in country New South Wales then over the Alpine Divide on the Snowy Mountain Highway to Cooma NSW where Land rover was having 60th anniversary, Bill Baker (former Director PR RRONA) was guest speaker. Drove out on the Monaro highway through beautiful winding forest roads, what a gem of a car-handling, overtaking in tight spots, brakes and ah! those seats what a pedigree!Over that month drove for a record 4500km with three trips to the Victoria/South Australia border to help a farmer friend set up his 604.Great memories-great car!
