In the 1st year I had to exchange the katalysator, it was worn out, and made a ticking sound while driving in low RPMs.
Fanbelts worn out pretty fast due to exessive offroad driving :)
This car is amazing, loads of power, comfort, and terrain capabilities packed into one little mean piece of machinery. Off the road, you should rely on your instincts and not go to far into the mud, your Vitara is a reliable car, but stock it belongs more onto the road, then into the bush!
I gave it a 4,5 CM lift, and equipped it with some 28" tires, that I really would advise everyone who feels the need to go offroad, that does the trick.
On the highway it is very comfty, the suspension works great, either while your driving 150 KM/h on the road, or 80 KM/h on loose sand.
Consumption is a bit high, but nothing to be affraid of, don't let the, sometimes a bit high, fuelconsumption supress your feelings about this car.
I drove it for 4 years, for more than 50.000 KM, and really enjoyed it.
I really miss my car, and hope that its new owner finds as much pleasure in it as I did.
For everyone who's planning to buy one, go ahead, there is almost nothing to go wrong. It is a rugged piece of machinery that will not let you down!
BTW: By now I am driving a 1991 Suzuki Samurai Rhino. And again Suzuki did impress me!
We bought a vitara 1.6 sport soft top 4weeks ago and after 2-3 weeks running it has got a tapping/rattling even like electrical arcing, distributor noise?
We changed leads, very poor state and distrubutor cap and then found a second hand distributor, but the rattling when accelerating continued.
What is a katalysator and does this sound like my problem
My husband loves the car even sold his motorbike for it!!
Me well I like luxury!!
When ticking over sounds ok
it has done 76,000 miles and has had a new head, so last owner says
Uses oil like an alcoholic but dont know whether related
people say reliable car, but i am yet to be converted
Thanks.
