1993 Ford Escort LX from North America - Comments

I have had to change the altenator once.

The seatbelts wore very bad and I had to get new ones put in.

Muffler went out.

Had to change both front tie rods.

This car is an excellent first car, it runs well, pretty reliable even in its high miles and it's cheap to own and fix.

It's a very small car wich could be good or bad. not a lot of room in the cab.

The trunk is very spacious, but its also very deep. It's hard to get big things out.

The steering is tight, handling could be better, but its not bad. good gas mileage.

The 1993 Ford Escort I have is pretty original. The starter has been replaced and alternator. The car has very little rust only on the passenger side rear panal. The car is cheap built car over time is become a rattle box and nuts and bolts on these cars brake like plastic. The cab of the car sucks for room and the window cranks are stiff. The glove box needs to be tightened every 2-3 months and the wheather stripping sucks so there for wind noise is bad. The speedo needle rattles and all cab screws nuts and bolts need to be tightened every once in a while. The engine in the car has 120,000 with no problems. The oil pan has a small leak nothing major. And, where I'm from we get below freezing temp. The car did good last winter started every day. The tranny has never been replaced. The OD still works well. It shifts hard, but I guess its normal in these cars. My tranny tech said it was fine. The car has treated me well, but through my studies these cars are cheap built and once they have problems forget it, but overall my car has had 2 owners and has been well taken care of except the common things that these cars have. So if you think about buying a Ford Escort, I advise the buyer to check the cars history and have it checked by a ASE service tech. This is my 2nd Ford Escort. I learned the first time. I've had the car almost a year and put maybe 200$ into it.
